For a man over 50, Match.com is a reasonable second site, and it can be a good first one if you want control over whom you write to. Search lets you find women who fit what you want and message them yourself, instead of waiting for software to show you to them. It is weaker if you hope matches will arrive with no effort, and the free version is enough to find out in a week.
Who "senior" means here
People type this question about themselves or a father. This article speaks to a man over 50 who is single and looking for a real relationship. Age 50 is not a hard line. What matters is the problem it brings with it.
a dating coach's point about dating after 30 carries straight through your fifties. The act of dating does not change much. Who you run into does. Your friends are married, you go out less, and the women you meet at work are fewer. The supply of single women around you dried up, and an app fixes that directly.
What Match does well for an older man
The swipe apps decide who you see and who sees you. A woman's age range on those apps can hide you from her even when she would have liked you in person.
Match lets a paying member search and write to a woman directly. coach calls that one of its real advantages. You choose whom to reach, so a woman who would never have swiped on you can still open your message.
Its free version also lets you chat with every match, so you can test whether women answer you before you pay for anything.
Where it is weaker
coach says Match used to be the biggest app and now holds a smaller share of the women most men want to meet, so he does not treat it as a main site. How many women in your age range are active near you decides whether it works, and the only way to know is to look. Run a search with honest filters and see how many names come back.
It can also cost a good deal. The paid tiers add more reach, plans renew automatically, and Match says an active plan cannot be paused. Do not buy a long plan on the first day.
Set it up for your age
Use a recent photo. The most common mistake after 50 is a lead photo from ten years ago. A woman who meets a man who does not look like his picture starts the date annoyed. Use a clear, recent shot of your face in daylight, alone in the frame.
Show a life. A hobby, a trip, friends, a kitchen you really cook in, on different days and in different clothes. coach says to look elegant and appropriate for a successful man, not dated and not like a teenager.
Say what you want, plainly. Two or three lines and one specific detail she could ask about. A man over 50 usually knows what he wants, and that is a strength. My rule at any age is that the page attracts whatever it describes.
The age gap
If you are 55, you probably still find women a good deal younger attractive, so an age gap is likely and the question will come up. My advice is to let her get to know you before age becomes a factor, and not to bring it up yourself.
Keep the early messages calm and a little less eager. Present it as worldly, not apologetic. If you sound unsure about being too old for her, she will hear that.
What to write to a woman you found
Use one real detail from her page, add something a little playful, and end on a question she can answer in a line. Send one message, not three. coach usually gets a woman from the app to her number in four to seven messages, and he suggests meeting early. A man with some years behind him is often good at this, because a plain invitation comes easily to him.
If she asks for a short call first, say yes. It makes a woman more likely to turn up, and glad to see you.
Stay careful with money
Real women use Match, and so do people who are not who they say. Never send money to someone you have not met, whatever the story, and keep the first meeting in a public place.
A one-week test
Use the free version for a week with your best recent photos. Write down how many women you rated well, how many answered and how many agreed to meet.
If women answer, a paid month may speed things up, and it is reasonable to pay for one. If almost none do, a subscription will not change what she sees on your page, and the money is better spent on new photos.
