Each tier includes everything in the one below it and adds something. Tinder Plus gives you unlimited daily Likes and unlimited Rewinds. It adds Passport Mode, hides the ads and lets you go incognito. Tinder Gold adds weekly Super Likes, a monthly Boost and the ability to see who Likes You. Tinder Platinum adds Prioritized Likes on top of everything in Plus and Gold.
Tinder Plus: the limits come off
Plus is about control over your own liking.
Unlimited daily Likes means you are not rationed. Rewind lets you take back your last Like or Nope, which Tinder limits to subscribers, and Plus gives you as many Rewinds as you want. Passport Mode lets you search by city or drop a pin on the map, so you can connect with people in a place before you get there. Plus also hides the advertisements. It lets you go incognito too, which Tinder describes as showing up only for the people you have already liked.
None of that changes how women see you. Plus changes what you can do, not how often you get chosen.
Tinder Gold: the women who already liked you
Gold keeps everything in Plus and adds three things.
The big one is seeing who Likes You. Instead of finding those women one card at a time, you see them in one place and decide on each. Gold also gives you weekly Super Likes and a monthly Boost, which you would otherwise buy separately.
That makes Gold the tier for a man whose account already draws likes. If women are liking you and you keep missing them in the stack, Gold puts them in front of you.
Tinder Platinum: your likes, seen sooner
Platinum keeps everything in Gold and adds Prioritized Likes. Tinder says this helps your Likes and Super Likes get seen faster, ahead of the Likes of people who do not subscribe. It is careful to add that it cannot promise your Like will be seen, because things like her own Discovery preferences still decide who reaches her.
So Platinum works in the other direction. Gold helps you with women who liked you first. Platinum helps with the women you like first.
One catch on weekly plans
Tinder notes that the monthly Boost is not available on weekly subscriptions. If the Boost is part of why you want Gold or Platinum, check the length of the plan before you pay for it.
The same goes for the price. Look at the options on your own screen before deciding, rather than going on a figure a friend quoted or one you read somewhere.
Pick the tier that fits where your matches come from
The right tier depends on who usually starts things.
If most of your matches begin with a woman liking you, Gold is the useful step, because the Likes You view is built for exactly that. If you like women first and hear back from few of them, Platinum's Prioritized Likes is the feature aimed at your situation. If you mainly want Passport before a trip, or you are sick of the ads, Plus covers it.
a dating coach thinks refusing to pay for anything on principle is a handicap, not a virtue. He also points out that the apps are businesses that earn their money from paying members, so they have every reason to look after them. In his own experience Platinum has been worth paying for. That is one man's result, though, and the only way to know about yours is to test.
Test one tier at a time
My rule for anything the apps sell is to try it, see whether it makes a real difference, and drop it if it does not.
So change one thing only. Keep your photos, your words and the times you use the app the same, and move up a single tier for a few weeks. Count your matches and, more to the point, your dates. If those numbers clearly move, the tier is earning its money. If they stay flat, step back down.
When no tier is the answer
Every one of these features works on what you already have.
coach calls paid extras multipliers, and he is blunt about the flaw: multiply zero by anything and you still have zero. If your free account gets almost no likes, Gold shows you an empty list, and Platinum just gets you passed over sooner. Fix the lead photo and the words first. When a free account brings in some matches in an ordinary week, a paid tier has something real to work with.
