Open Tinder, go to Settings in the app, and select Get Tinder Gold or Get Tinder Platinum. Tinder says the subscription should update immediately. The one limit is the length of the plan. You can change the type but not the duration, so a six-month Plus plan becomes a six-month Gold or Platinum plan.
The steps in the app
The whole thing takes about a minute.
- Open Tinder.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Get Tinder Gold or Get Tinder Platinum.
Confirm the purchase and your plan should switch over right away. You do not need to cancel Plus first or wait for it to run out. The upgrade replaces it.
You change the tier, not the length
Men tend to miss this part. An upgrade keeps the length you already chose.
If you signed up for six months of Plus, the upgrade gives you six months of Gold or Platinum. It will not turn a long plan into a one-month trial of the higher tier. So think about the length before you tap. If you want to try Platinum briefly and then decide, an upgrade on a long plan commits you to the higher tier for the full length.
What happens to the money
How you are charged for the switch depends on where you pay.
On an iPhone, Tinder says you pay the full cost of the new plan at once, and Apple should refund the unused time on the old one within a few business days. Your renewal date moves to the day you upgraded. On Android through Google Play, you are charged a prorated amount for the difference and your renewal date stays where it was. On Tinder.com, or with a card inside the Android app, you pay in full upfront and get a refund for the remaining time within a few days.
So the upgrade does not make you pay twice for the same weeks. It can make your bank statement look busy for a few days while the refund lands.
If the option is missing
Sometimes the upgrade choice simply is not there. Tinder says that on an Android phone this may mean it no longer accepts the payment method you used when you first subscribed. In that case you cancel, wait for the current plan to end, and start a new Gold or Platinum plan once it has expired.
Gold or Platinum: pick by who starts things
Both tiers include everything in Plus, so the choice comes down to one feature each.
Gold adds the ability to see who Likes You, along with weekly Super Likes and a monthly Boost. It helps most when women are already liking you and you are losing them in the stack. Platinum adds Prioritized Likes on top of Gold. Tinder says that helps your Likes and Super Likes get seen faster, ahead of people who do not subscribe, though it cannot promise they are seen at all.
So look at your own matches. If most of them start with her liking you, go to Gold. If you tend to like first and hear back rarely, Platinum is the one aimed at that. a dating coach has said that in his own experience Platinum was worth paying for, and he points out that the apps earn their money from paying members, so they have a reason to look after them.
Judge it on dates, not on features
An upgrade feels like progress the moment it goes through. Whether it is progress shows up weeks later.
coach treats every paid feature as an experiment. Try it, and drop it if nothing real changes. Before you upgrade, note how many matches and how many dates you got on Plus in the last few weeks. Then change nothing else. Keep the same photos, the same words and the same evenings on the app. After a few weeks on the new tier, compare.
If the dates went up, the upgrade earned its place. If only the list of likes got longer, you are paying for a nicer view of the same results.
When the upgrade will not help
Every paid feature on the app works on what you already have. coach calls them multipliers and points out that multiplying zero still leaves you with zero.
If Plus is bringing in almost nothing, Gold shows you an empty Likes You page and Platinum gets you passed over faster. Put a clear, well-lit photo of your face first and give her one specific thing in your words to ask about. Once an ordinary week brings in a few matches, the higher tier has something to multiply.
