In Meet Me, swipe up on the woman you are looking at, or tap the Super Like icon, and POF lets her know you sent her a Super Like. You buy Super Likes in a la carte packs, and any membership can buy them, a free one included. They belong to your account, so you cannot pass them to anyone else.

Two ways to send one

Both ways start in Meet Me, where POF shows you women one at a time.

The first is a gesture. When a woman you like is on your screen, swipe up instead of sideways. The second is a button. Tap the Super Like icon while she is showing. Either one sends the same Super Like, and POF shows her that it came from you.

Because swiping up is so quick, take a second before you do it. A Super Like is meant for a woman you chose on purpose, not one who happened to be on the screen when your thumb moved.

Buying Super Likes

Super Likes are sold a la carte, in packs, separately from the membership tiers.

You do not need a paid tier to buy them. A free member can pick up a pack the same way an upgraded member can. The one limit is that they are tied to your account. You cannot give them to a friend or move them to a second account.

What she sees, and what it says about you

An ordinary like is quiet. A Super Like is loud, because POF makes a point of telling her you sent it.

That cuts two ways. It gets her attention, which is the point. It also tells her, before you have said a word, that you think she is special. Some women enjoy that. Others read it as a man who is keen before he knows anything about her, and a few read it as a little desperate.

It can also change how the conversation starts. A woman who knows you singled her out may feel she holds the upper hand, and you can end up working harder in the first messages than you would have after an ordinary match. That is the trade: more attention, but a conversation that can start with her deciding whether you are worth her time.

When a Super Like is worth sending

Save them for a small number of women where you have a real reason.

A good reason is specific. Her page mentions something you share, or a detail you can actually talk about, and she is clearly the kind of woman you want to date. A weak reason is just that she is good looking. Every man on the app has that reason, and it gives you nothing to say once she matches with you.

Picture the difference. Her page says she is training for her first marathon, and you have run a half marathon yourself. Or she names a small band you have seen live twice. That is a Super Like with something behind it, and your first message is already half written before she likes you back.

A Super Like also makes more sense when an ordinary like might get lost. If she looks like a woman who gets a lot of attention, standing out from the pile can be worth spending one on.

Do not spend them like ordinary likes

The value of a Super Like comes from being rare. Send them to everyone and each one means less, both to the women who get them and to your own results.

Treat them like any other paid extra on the apps. If your ordinary likes already bring you some matches, a few Super Likes can add to that. If your ordinary likes bring you nothing, Super Likes will not rescue a page that is not working. Fix your photos and what you wrote about yourself first, then think about spending.

Try a small pack, send them carefully, and watch what happens. If the women you Super Like match with you and the conversations go well, keep using them now and then. If they do not, stop buying them.

If she likes you back

When she matches with you, write to her the way you would after any match. Do not mention the Super Like, and do not act extra grateful that she answered. She already knows you were interested, so there is nothing to add on that front.

Keep the first message short. Pick up the detail that made you choose her, say something about it, and end on a question she can answer easily. Then keep it light, and within a few good exchanges suggest a simple plan with a day and a place. The Super Like got her attention. The message is what gets you the date.

If she never likes you back, let it go. A Super Like does not mean she owes you an answer, and there is nothing to chase. Spend your attention on the women who did match with you.
