Tinder lists no fixed monthly price for Platinum. Its terms say pricing varies based on a number of factors. They add that promotional rates vary by region, length of subscription, bundle size, past purchases and account activity. Plans also come in different lengths. The per-month cost is a figure you work out from the price and plan length your own app shows when you buy.
Why "per month" is a calculation
Men ask for a monthly number because it is easy to compare. Tinder does not hand one out.
Tinder's help center lists no price per tier, and the amount a person pays is the one shown in the app at purchase. The terms add that the length of a subscription is one of the things that changes the price. Put those together, and the monthly cost is something you derive, not something you look up.
So a forum answer that says what Platinum costs each month is describing one man's plan and one man's region. It may be correct for him and wrong for you.
Plans come in different lengths
Tinder's help center notes that the monthly Boost is not available on weekly subscriptions. That small detail confirms something useful: weekly plans exist alongside longer ones.
So the screen in front of you may show Platinum by the week, by the month or over a longer stretch, depending on what Tinder offers you. Each plan has its own price and its own length.
If you only see a weekly figure, a month holds a little over four weeks. Multiply the weekly price by that and you have a rough monthly equivalent. If you see a longer plan, divide its price by the number of months it covers. Do the sum for each option, and then the options are comparable.
What a monthly figure includes
Platinum includes everything in Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold. It adds Prioritized Likes, so your Likes and Super Likes are seen faster by a potential match.
That means the number you work out buys all of these:
- unlimited daily Likes and unlimited Rewinds from Plus
- Passport Mode, hidden advertisements and going incognito from Plus
- weekly Super Likes, one Boost per month and See Who Likes You from Gold
- Prioritized Likes from Platinum itself
Because the monthly Boost is part of Gold, it comes up when you compare plans. Tinder says it is not available on weekly subscriptions, so a weekly Platinum plan may not give you that part of the bundle. If the Boost matters to you, check what the plan screen lists before you choose a weekly option.
The first period is not always the price you keep
The terms say promotional rates can vary by region, length of subscription, bundle size, past purchases and account activity.
A promotional rate is a reason to read carefully, not a reason to relax. Tinder also says subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, for the price and time period you agreed to when you subscribed. So look at what the plan screen says about the renewal, and compare that figure, not only the opening one, with your budget.
Put Platinum next to Gold on the same scale
The question men are really asking is usually whether Platinum is worth more than Gold. You can answer it with the same arithmetic.
Work out the per-month figure for Gold and for Platinum, using plans of the same length. The gap between them is what you pay each month for Prioritized Likes, since that is the one feature Platinum adds. Whether that is a fair amount is your call, and it depends on how many Likes you send to women who might actually say yes.
a dating coach's view of paid tiers is to treat them as multipliers and to test them. If you are already getting matches and replies, a feature that gets your Likes seen faster can multiply that. If you are not, it multiplies very little.
Keep the cost in check
A monthly bill is easy to stop noticing. A few habits keep it honest.
- Choose the shortest plan while you are still testing.
- Note the renewal date the day you buy, and set a reminder a few days before.
- Count your matches and replies before you subscribe and again before the renewal.
- Cancel where you paid if the numbers did not move.
If they did move, keep it, because the monthly cost is doing its job. If they did not, no per-month figure was a bargain.
