Invisible mode is a Badoo Premium feature that keeps you hidden from everyone but the people you have liked. Only women you have already shown interest in can see you. You switch it on from Settings, under Invisible Mode, and the same screen lets you hide your online status and turn on private browsing.

Turning it on

Tap the profile icon, then the Settings gear, then Invisible Mode.

That one screen holds three controls. Invisible mode itself, the option to hide your online status, and private browsing. You can use them together or one at a time.

Because it is a Premium feature, you need an active Premium subscription to use it.

What changes when you are invisible

With invisible mode on, you are visible only to the women you have liked.

That sounds like a small change. It is not. On a normal day, some of your matches start with a woman who came across you first and liked you. With invisible mode on, a woman you have not liked cannot come across you at all, so that whole source of matches stops. Everything now depends on you finding her first and her liking you back.

The two extra switches

Hiding your online status stops other members from seeing when you are active. Private browsing lets you look around more discreetly. Both are there for privacy, and both are separate from invisible mode, so you can hide your status without hiding yourself entirely.

When hiding makes sense

There are good reasons to go invisible for a while.

  • Someone you know is on the app. A coworker, a client, a friend's sister or an ex. Invisible mode lets you keep using Badoo without them coming across you.
  • You are focused on a few women. If you are talking to two or three women you really like and want to see where those go, hiding from everyone else keeps your chats manageable.
  • You want to be choosy. a dating coach likes being the one who decides who he matches with, rather than leaving it to the app. Invisible mode is the strictest version of that: the only women in play are the ones you picked.
  • You are pausing for a short spell. If work is busy for a couple of weeks and you cannot reply properly, hiding keeps new chats from piling up that you would only leave hanging.

Whatever the reason, be clear with yourself about it. Invisible mode is a privacy tool. It is not a strategy for getting more dates.

Why most men should stay visible most of the time

For most men, the problem on dating apps is not too much attention. It is too little.

coach likes paid features that add to what you already get. Invisible mode works the other way for most men: it takes a part of your results away. If women rarely like you back, hiding from the ones who might have found you first leaves you with even less to work with.

So be honest about where you stand. If your matches mostly come from women you liked first, and they like you back often, invisible mode costs you little. If a good share of your matches start with women finding you, you will notice the drop quickly.

Use it for a reason, then switch it off

Treat invisible mode as a tool for a specific situation, not a setting you leave on and forget.

Turn it on when the reason appears, the coworker on the app or the few women you are focused on. Then set yourself a reminder to turn it off when the reason goes away. It is easy to switch it on for one awkward week, forget about it, and wonder a month later why the app has gone quiet.

If your results drop and you cannot see why, check this screen first. It takes five seconds and rules out the simplest explanation.

Visibility is only half the work

Being seen gets you matches. What you send decides whether they go anywhere.

coach treats a first message as a quick job, not a writing project. He notices one thing about her, makes a short playful line of it, sends it, and moves on. Then he keeps the chat brief and pointed toward her number. Invisible or not, that is where most men lose the matches they already have, and it costs nothing to get right.

He also keeps his time on the apps short and ordered. The women closest to a date come first, then the conversations already going, then first messages to new matches. A man who works his chats like that gets more out of ten matches than another man gets out of fifty he never answers.
