Badoo does not call it deactivating. The way to switch an account off without losing it is to hide the account. In the app, go to Profile, tap the Settings gear, tap Account and turn on the Hide account toggle. You can come back any time by tapping the toggle again.
If you want the account gone for good, that is a different step, and this article covers both so you do not lose anything by mistake.
The steps in the app
Open Badoo and go to your own page. Tap the Settings gear, then tap Account. Switch on Hide account.
That is all. The account stays in place instead of being deleted, so you do not start from nothing when you return.
The steps on the web
On Badoo's website the route is almost the same: Profile, the Settings gear, Account, then the Hide profile toggle. The wording on the web is Hide profile, and in the app it is Hide account, but it is the same switch for the same purpose.
To return, open Settings the same way and turn the toggle off. Nothing needs to be rebuilt.
What deleting the app does
Men often delete the app from their phone and assume that ends it. It does not. Deleting the app, or just not using it, leaves your account on Badoo. Your page can still be there, and so can your chats.
If you are trying to disappear, hide the account. If you only want your phone clear, deleting the app is fine, but it is not a way of leaving. The reverse is true as well: reinstalling the app later does not create a new account, it just gets you back to the one you left.
Deleting is a different thing
Hiding and deleting are not the same. To delete, you use Delete account, under Settings and then Account.
A deleted account can be restored for up to 28 days. After that, Badoo starts removing your personal data. So a deletion has a short window where it can be undone, and then it is final.
Choose deliberately. If you are not sure you are done with Badoo, hide the account first. You can delete later, and you cannot un-delete after the window.
When a break is the right call
A hidden account suits a few kinds of man. One is worn out by the apps. One is seeing a woman and wants to be fair to her. One needs to fix his photos before he comes back.
a dating coach's view is that online dating is a numbers game you win by staying in it at a steady pace. A planned break with a clear end fits that better than quietly letting the app drain you until you stop.
What to do with the time
If you hide the account, do not just wait. Use the time so the account you return to works better than the one you left.
Take new photos in daylight, in a few different outfits and places. My view is that photos are what a woman sees first, and that a weak first photo wastes the rest of the page. Rewrite the lines that describe you so they say something specific. Decide ahead how many women you want to talk to each week, and what a good week looks like.
Set a date to turn it back on. A break with no return date turns into quitting without ever deciding to.
Before you go
Hiding the account does not tell the women you are already talking to what is going on. If you have a good conversation running, say so: tell her you are taking a break from the app and suggest a plan or swap numbers. A woman you like should not find out you vanished by seeing your chat go quiet.
Then switch the toggle on, step away, and come back with better photos and a clearer head.
