Yes. Your Most Compatible appears at the top of your Discover feed, and an ordinary like works on her exactly as it does on anyone else there. The Roses-only rule you may have in mind belongs to Standouts, which is a separate feed. The one piece of advice Hinge gives about the pick is not to wait too long before you send that like.

Why men assume they need a Rose

The confusion is understandable. Standouts and Most Compatible both look like special picks, and Standouts really does refuse ordinary likes. A man who has hit that wall once tends to assume every highlighted woman works the same way.

She does not. Most Compatible is part of Discover, the main feed, so the normal rules of Discover apply to her. It is Hinge's daily guess at the person you are most likely to connect with, built on mutual preferences. In other words, Hinge already expects her to be open to you. Nothing about that calls for a paid push.

Sending the like

Open Discover. When Hinge has a pick for you, she is the first person on the screen.

Scroll through her whole page before you do anything. The later photos and her prompts tell you much more than the first picture, and they are where your comment will come from. Then like the specific photo or prompt that caught your eye, write your comment, and send it.

That is the entire process. A regular like with a good comment is the default move for a Most Compatible, not a cheap substitute for a Rose.

When a Rose is still worth spending

A Rose is optional here, not forbidden. It puts you at the top of her Likes You list, where she will see you before the ordinary likes.

There is a case for it when she is the woman you would most regret never reaching and you have a free Rose sitting unused. There is a weak case for it as a habit. Your Most Compatible was not chosen because other men are swarming her, which is the situation Roses are built for. The extra visibility buys less with her than it would with a woman in Standouts.

a dating coach's rule for every paid feature on the apps applies. Try it, see whether it makes a real difference to your results, and drop it if it does not. Send a few picks a regular like and a few a Rose, then compare what came back.

Write a comment she can answer

My own worked example of messaging on Hinge comes from a woman who was his Most Compatible. One of her prompts said the way to win her over was witty banter and intelligent conversation. He did not compliment her. He teased her, joking that her answer looked like she had copied it off his test paper, with a winky face to show he was playing.

She played along in her reply and talked about the two of them as a "we." By his second message he had already floated the idea of a celebratory drink.

Take the structure, not the line. Find one thing she wrote. React to it with a bit of playful confidence instead of praise. Keep it to a sentence. coach also says a first message should not eat your evening: notice something on her page, write it, and send it within a minute or so. Save the careful effort for later in the conversation, once she has shown she is interested.

Do not let the day run out

Each Most Compatible expires after 24 hours. That is why Hinge's advice on the pick boils down to one line: if she catches your eye, do not wait too long to send the like.

So decide while her page is open. If she passes the test of being someone you would really take out, like her now. If she does not, skip her. A quick honest skip is a perfectly good use of the pick, and it keeps you from filling your inbox with lukewarm matches you will never bother to answer.

If she likes you back

Now she is simply one of your matches, and the pick no longer matters.

coach plans his conversations backward from the last message, which is roughly "sounds good, here's my number, what's yours?" Everything before it exists to make that line feel natural. He wants her to find him fun, to feel she knows him a little, and to have talked about meeting up before he ever asks. Done well, that takes him four to seven messages.

Use your comment as the first of those. Carry on from whatever you teased her about, add one real detail about your week, and mention a place you want to try. When she picks up on it, suggest a specific evening.
