Most of the time a Rose that will not send means you have already used your free one for the week. Hinge gives members a free Rose each week, and free Roses do not stack, so once it is gone you have to buy more or wait. If you still have one, you are probably tapping the wrong button, and the steps below fix that.

Check how many you have

Open your Profile Hub by tapping your profile photo. Your available Roses are shown there.

If the number is zero, that is the whole problem. Tap the Rose icon once you have used them all and Hinge lets you buy more. Otherwise you wait for the next free one.

A free Rose does not carry over. A man who skips a week does not get two the week after. That is why a Rose can feel like it worked last Tuesday and does nothing now.

Sending one in Discover

In Discover, tap the red heart on a woman's photo or on one of her prompt answers. You can add a comment. Then tap the Rose icon instead of Send Like.

Men often tap the heart and then send a plain Like out of habit, which is a regular Like and not a Rose. Read the button before you press it.

Sending one in Standouts

Standouts works differently. Tap the star to open it, tap the Rose icon on a photo or prompt you like, add a comment if you want, then tap Send Rose.

In Standouts you can only send Roses, not regular Likes. If you go looking for a Like button there, you will not find one, and it can look like the screen is broken. It is not. Standouts is built around the Rose.

If it still will not send

If you have a Rose and you are on the right screen, treat it as a technical problem. Hinge's basic steps are to check your connection, log out and back in, and then uninstall and reinstall the app.

Do those in that order. A weak signal is the usual cause, and logging out and in re-syncs the app with Hinge's servers. Reinstalling is the last step, not the first.

When it sends and nothing happens

The other meaning of "not working" is that the Rose went through and she never answered. That is a different problem, and it has nothing to do with the app.

A Rose appears at the top of the other person's Likes You screen. It is a stronger signal than a Like, and that is all it is. It does not make her answer, and it does not make her like what she sees when she opens your page.

a dating coach says a large share of his own Hinge matches come from Roses with an interesting message attached, and that the message is what makes them work. So a Rose with no comment, or with a line that could go to any woman, is a plain Like in a nicer wrapper.

Spend the free one well

Because the free Rose resets and does not accumulate, the sensible move is to use it every week on the one woman you would most like to meet. Do not hold it for the perfect moment. An unused Rose is simply gone.

Choose someone whose page gives you something to say. Comment on a specific answer or photo, in one line, about her. My rule for paid features is to treat them as a short test: write down your results for two weeks, use a Rose on one woman with a good comment, and see what happens.

If Roses are getting you nothing, look at your own page before you buy more. a dating coach calls photos the biggest thing men get wrong online. A Rose puts you at the top of her list for a moment, and she then judges your photos and prompts in a few seconds.

The short answer

A Rose usually stops working because the free weekly one is used up. Check your Roses in the Profile Hub, tap the Rose icon and not Send Like, and remember that Standouts only allows Roses. If a Rose will not send at all, check your connection, log out and in, then reinstall.

If it sends and gets no answer, the comment and your page are the problem, not the app.
