Plenty of Fish's help center says that when a person's profile or past messages cannot be found, it most likely means the profile is no longer active on the site. She may have closed or deleted her account, she may be on Take a Break, or the site may have banned her. The message does not tell you which, and Plenty of Fish does not give you a way to find out. That is fine, because what you do next is almost the same in every case.

She deleted her account

A member can close or delete her account. Plenty of Fish says deleted accounts cannot be reactivated, and that all of her chats and matches are deleted with it.

That includes the conversation you were in. If a woman you were talking to goes to "no longer available," the chat can disappear from your side too. This is the most common explanation, and it is not about you. Women delete accounts when they meet someone, get busy or tire of the apps.

She is on Take a Break

Take a Break hides a member's profile from the site and from search. Her earlier contacts can still reply to old messages.

So a profile that vanishes may only be asleep. If you wrote to her before she hid it, she can still answer you, and a reply may arrive weeks later with no warning. Do not wait for it, but do not assume the door is shut either.

A woman on a break is not opening the app much, so any answer will be slow. If you do write again, keep it to one short, easy line. A long paragraph she has to rebuild her week to answer will sit unread, and a light line costs her nothing to answer when she comes back.

The site banned her

Banned members have their profile removed and the account closed.

If a woman who sent you odd or pushy messages has disappeared, this may be why. If the conversation was friendly, it is a less likely explanation than a deleted account or a break.

A message that never arrived

Plenty of Fish removes a blocked or filtered message altogether, to spare members from unwanted content, and it does not restore messages. So a message you sent can vanish without notice, and the page will not explain it.

Conversations older than 30 days are also removed from the inbox. If you are looking for a chat from a few weeks ago and cannot find it, the age of the conversation may be the whole answer.

What you cannot learn from the screen

The screen never tells you which of these happened. You cannot tell a deleted account from a break from a ban, and guessing which one it was wastes your evening.

It also is not a verdict on you. A woman who loses interest stops replying while her profile stays where it is, which looks different. "No longer available" is about her account, not about your photos or your first line.

Your next step

Save what matters before it disappears. If a chat is going well, move it off the app early. After a few good exchanges, write something like "I'd like to take you for a drink this week. What is your number?" A number cannot be deleted by a button press, and a conversation that lives only inside the app can.

Do not keep trying the same profile. Spend the time on the women who are still active.

Keep three or four conversations going at once, so that one woman leaving does not empty your week. a dating coach's rule for any dating app is that you work the women who reply. A man with one conversation on the go feels each disappearance as a loss, and a man with several barely notices.

Make the next conversation harder to lose

Women leave the apps for many reasons, and most of them have nothing to do with you.

So tighten the part you control. Suggest a specific, easy plan within a handful of exchanges, such as a drink near her on a weeknight. My view is that texting exists to set up the date, and that men waste weeks in chats that go nowhere. A woman who has already agreed to a time and a place is far less likely to drift off than one you have only been texting.
