Luxy keeps full swiping and messaging for members who have passed its review. If your account has not cleared the initial review yet, you only get a preview of the app, which is why the upgrade screen appears the moment you try to swipe or write to someone. To get full access you can pay for an upgrade, send your application in again for another review, or buy a Priority Pass, which Luxy says skips the initial review.
What the preview is telling you
The preview is where every account waits until the review says yes. It is not a fault in the app, and it is not a sign that anyone has judged you as a person.
You can look around, but the two things that turn looking into dates are held back. You cannot swipe freely, and you cannot write to the women you like. So the paywall is not really a charge for swiping. It is Luxy offering you a way past a review you have not passed yet.
Why a selective app reviews people first
A review at the door is part of what makes an app selective. Luxy runs one before it hands out full access, and it gives you three ways forward if you have not been let in.
For you, the practical effect is simple. The women already on Luxy are choosing from men who got through. Your page will be compared with theirs, not with the average man on a crowded app. Keep that in mind whichever route you take, because it decides how much any of them is worth.
The three ways to full access
Upgrade. Buying one of the paid tiers gives you full access. It is the one route that does not depend on a reviewer.
Apply again. You can resubmit your application for another review. If the second review goes your way, you have full access through the review rather than through a payment.
Priority Pass. Luxy also sells a Priority Pass, which it says skips the initial review. It is aimed at the man who does not want to wait.
Paying to get in versus applying again
Some men treat any payment to a dating app as a kind of surrender. That instinct usually costs them more than it saves. If your evenings are worth something and a feature does what it says, paying is often the cheaper choice.
Paying for access has a catch here, though. A paid tier gets you through the door. It does not change what women see once you are inside. If something in your application held it back, the same photos and the same words are now in front of every woman you swipe on. All you would have bought is a faster way to be skipped.
So ask yourself one honest question first. Is your page as strong as you can make it today? If it is, upgrading or buying a Priority Pass is a fair way to save time. If it is not, fix it and apply again. Decide about paying once you know it can pass on its own.
What to change before you apply again
Sending the same application back unchanged is a coin toss at best. Change the parts you control.
Start with the photos, since they carry most of the weight. Lead with a photo of just you, face clearly visible and well lit, sunglasses off. Take the others on different days in different places, so the whole set reads like a real life rather than one afternoon. Women tend to judge a man by his weakest photo. If one is clearly worse than the others, drop it. Four strong photos beat five where one lets you down.
Then read what you wrote about yourself as if a stranger wrote it. A list of your job, your car and your last three trips reads like a resume, and most men on the app have one. One or two specific details she could ask about work far better. A small edge helps too, something a woman could disagree with, as long as it never tips into anything offensive.
If you can, show the whole page to a female friend and ask what she would cut. Someone who does not see you every day will spot the weak photo in seconds.
Once you are in
Full access is where the real work starts, and a selective app rewards a careful hand.
Swipe right on women you actually want to take out, not on everyone. Liking every face fills your list with women you have nothing to say to. When you match, write within a day, and build the first message around one thing from her page. Keep it short and easy to answer. Two short check-ins a day, morning and evening, beat one long Sunday session. That way nobody you match with waits long enough to lose interest.
When her replies are coming easily, name an evening for a drink and ask for her number. That way the two of you are not relying on the app to stay in touch.
