OkCupid's help pages on sign-in problems and bug reports do not name Safari. For sign-in problems and errors, it says clearing your browser's cache may fix them. If that does not help, it asks you to report the bug with three details: when you first saw it, which browser you use, and whether it happens every time. Until it is sorted, the phone app and mobile web give you another way into the same account.

Start with the cache

OkCupid's sign-in troubleshooting page says that clearing your web browser's cache, or reinstalling the app if you are using it, may fix an error.

In Safari, that means clearing the stored website data for OkCupid, or for everything, and then loading the site again. It is the first fix to try because it is quick, and it is the one OkCupid itself lists for errors at sign-in.

A shared computer can cause it

The same page notes that problems sometimes occur when many different people sign in to their accounts from one machine. If you are on a family computer, a work laptop or a shared desk, other logins may have left stale data behind.

Clearing the cache again usually helps. Better still, use a browser profile that only you use, or switch to your own phone for the evening.

If you cannot sign in at all, OkCupid says you can request a login link by email. Enter the address tied to your account, then open the link it sends you.

Two things to watch. Use the exact address on the account, since a different one will not match. And check your spam folder before you request a second link.

Facebook login on iPhone

If you sign in with Facebook, notice what the help center says. Login with Facebook does not work on the iOS app.

OkCupid recommends logging in on Android, mobile web or a computer instead. Another route is to send yourself a password reset link and add a new password and a phone number for the future. A man who has lost access because of this is not locked out for good. He just needs a password.

Try another way in

You can use OkCupid through the app, mobile web or desktop. If Safari fails, try the app, or try mobile web on your phone. They all reach the same account.

Do not lose a week to a browser. A match you answer the same evening is warmer than one you answer a week later, so get back in by whatever route works.

Write the bug report properly

If nothing works, contact support. OkCupid's bug reporting page asks you to say three things.

  • When you first saw the problem.
  • Which browser or phone operating system you are on.
  • Whether it happens every time or only sometimes.

Put all three in your first message, along with a screenshot of any error. A short, complete report gets a faster answer than a long note about how annoyed you are, and it spares you a round of questions.

Keep your matches and messages going

A broken browser is also a good moment to look at the rest of your setup.

a dating coach is clear that no single dating app is the whole game. He runs profiles on several, and he treats whatever works on one as something to try on the others. If OkCupid is giving you trouble, spend the evening on a second app with a few strong photos and a short bio that gives a woman something to answer.

When Safari behaves again, you will have two places working for you and not one. If it never does, you will not have lost the week, and the matches you were waiting for will come from wherever you put the effort in.
