You get no matches in a new city because the app is now showing your page to a different group of women, and it has no history on you there. Most of the time that is a settings problem and a short settling period, not a verdict on you. Fix the location, widen the range, swipe on purpose for a few days, and the first matches usually arrive.
Check that the app knows where you are
Start with the boring cause. If location access is off, or still pointing at the city you left, you are being shown to the wrong people and seeing the wrong people.
Open the app and look at the location it shows. Then look at the phone's own setting for the app and make sure it can read where you are. If you changed cities on a trip or a move, close the app fully and reopen it. A man who has been "dead" for a week sometimes finds that nothing was wrong except a location that never updated.
A different city is a different crowd
The number of women the app can show you depends on where you are. A big city gives you a deep stack. A smaller town gives you fewer people, and you will run through them quickly.
The distance and age settings that worked at home may be too tight here. If you set a short distance in a place where people live far apart, the stack empties fast and the same faces repeat. Widen the distance a little and widen the age range to what you would honestly accept. More people to see means more chances for the match to be mutual.
Remember also that the local crowd has its own taste. A city full of students, a city full of people in their forties, and a city full of people just passing through all respond to the same man differently.
Give it a short settling period
Tinder has said that new connections take time and do not arrive at a steady rate. Nobody outside the company knows exactly how the app treats a man in a place he just arrived, and anyone who gives you a number of days is guessing.
What you can count on is simple. The app learns from what you do. You have just changed what you see, so your first days in a new place give it little to go on. Use the app a little each day, rather than one long session and then nothing, and give it about a week or two before you decide anything.
Make your page fit the place
Your photos came from your old life. If every picture was taken at home, at your old gym, with your old friends, the new city has no way to see that you live here now.
Add one or two pictures from where you are now: a street, a cafe, a market, a view she would recognize. It tells her you are not a tourist with a thin page, and it gives her something local to ask about. If you are visiting rather than moving, do the opposite and say so plainly in a line. A visiting man who is honest about it gets more replies than one who hides it.
Swipe like you mean it
a dating coach's view of online dating is that it is a numbers game, but a very winnable one. The mistake is chasing the wrong numbers. In a new city, the number that matters is how many women you actually want to meet that you can reach.
So skip the speed run. Spend a few minutes a day choosing women you would genuinely ask out and read what they wrote. A smaller set of deliberate likes teaches the app more than a hundred taps in a row, and it gives each woman a reason to say yes back.
When you do get a match, move
Matches in a new city are worth more than they look, because you have no network, no friends of friends, and no other way to meet people yet. Send a message soon. Make the first line about something specific on her page.
Then aim at a plan. coach keeps his exchanges to a handful of messages before a time and place come up. In a city you do not know well, pick somewhere near where you are staying. It keeps the evening simple.
When the city really is the problem
Sometimes the new place is just thin. A small town with a narrow range can give you a slow month. So can a city where your age group is a small share of the people on the app. So can a place that mostly empties out for part of the year.
Say you have fixed the location, widened the settings and updated the pictures. Say you have swiped on purpose for two weeks and still see almost nothing. You are not being punished. You are in a market with fewer choices. Widen the distance further, look at the closest bigger town, and add a second way to meet people in your first week, such as a class or a group that meets regularly.
