Why Did Google Play Charge Before Your Bumble Renewal?

Bumble says that if you subscribed through Google Play, you might notice a small preauthorization charge before your renewal date. It is Google's way of making sure there are enough funds in your account for the upcoming payment. It appears because the plan is about to renew, and it has nothing to do with your swiping or messages on the app.

Bumble describes the preauthorization as a check. Google is making sure the money for your next payment is there before it takes it. Bumble mentions it for plans bought through Google Play, ahead of a renewal.

So the charge tells you one thing: your subscription is set to renew. If that is what you want, you can ignore it. If it is not, treat it as your reminder. It also tells you the renewal is close, which is useful if you had lost track of the date.

Open the Google Play Store and tap your icon. Go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and select Bumble. That screen shows your subscription details and your next billing date.

If the next billing date is close, the small charge lines up with the renewal Bumble describes. You can also look through your purchase history in Google Play to see the Bumble payments themselves.

While you are on that screen, write the next billing date somewhere you will see it. Your decision is due the day before it, because of the 24 hours Bumble requires for a cancellation.

Bumble says your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. If the preauthorization has already appeared, the date may be close, so do not put it off.

To cancel through Google Play, open the Play Store and tap your icon. Go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Bumble, and tap Cancel Subscription.

Bumble says you keep your paid perks until the end of your subscription date after you cancel. So cancelling today does not cut off the time you have already paid for.

If you are not sure yet, you do not have to settle it on the spot. Cancelling now only stops the renewal, and you can subscribe again later if the plan turns out to be worth it.

Contact Support when what you paid for and what you received do not match. If you were charged for a purchase and the paid feature is not showing in your account, Bumble asks you to contact its Support team with a screenshot of your purchase receipt.

For a Google Play purchase, the receipt goes to the email address linked to your Google Play account. Bumble says it cannot accept screenshots of bank or card statements, because they do not show the exact item bought. Send the receipt. Say which feature you bought, roughly when, and that you paid through Google Play. A short, factual message is the easiest kind to act on.

The preauthorization is a useful nudge, because it arrives right when a decision is due. Use it to ask whether the plan earned another period.

A rough weekly note makes this easy: matches, real conversations, and any dates. Without one, you end up judging the plan on how the last few days felt.

Look at the weeks you have paid for. Are more women matching with you than on the free version? Are those matches turning into conversations that last more than a couple of lines? Have any become a coffee or a drink?

If so, let it renew and keep going. In that case the small charge was only Google checking ahead of a payment you were happy to make. If very little changed, the subscription was not the part that needed work. Put the effort into a clearer lead photo and into first lines that pick up on something she wrote. Come back to paid features once those are working.
