For an App Store or Google Play plan, you change it in the store that bills you. On an iPhone that means Payment & Shipping in the Settings app, and on Android it means Payment methods in the Google Play Store. The new card only applies to future payments, so it won't change anything you've already been charged.

On an iPhone

Bumble says the process depends on the platform you first paid through. On iOS, it's four steps.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then select Payment & Shipping.
  3. Choose your current payment method to update it, or tap Add Payment Method.
  4. Follow the steps to save your changes.

On Android

Bumble says that on Android, in-app purchases have to go through Google Play, in line with Google's payment policy. So the payment method that gets used is whichever one you've linked to Google Play.

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then Payment methods.
  4. Update an existing option, or tap Add payment method.

It only changes future charges

Bumble is clear on this point. Updating your payment method only affects future payments. It won't change charges that have already been billed.

So if an old card was charged and you meant the new one to be used, swapping cards now won't move that charge. If you think a charge was wrong, that's a refund question.

Who decides a refund depends on how you paid. Apple handles App Store purchases and Google Play handles Android ones. Bumble's support team reviews card, Apple Pay, PayPal and Bumble Web payments.

Update the card before the renewal date

The best time to change a card is before it causes a problem. If the card on file is about to expire, or you've cancelled it, update the store's payment method a few days before your plan renews.

Bumble says a plan renews on its own unless you cancel it first, and that renewal needs a card that works. Bumble also lists a payment that didn't go through as one reason a paid feature doesn't show up on your account. Updating early keeps a failed payment from being the reason a feature goes missing.

On Android, you may notice a small preauthorization charge just before a renewal. Bumble says that's Google checking there's enough money in your account for the payment.

If you paid Bumble directly

Bumble's payment-method page covers the App Store and Google Play. If you pay Bumble itself, by card, PayPal or Apple Pay, the Subscription details screen in the app is where Bumble sends you to check or cancel that plan. Open the app, go to your profile, and tap Subscription details.

If you don't see a way to change the card there, contact Bumble's support team through the Help Hub. Tap the question-mark icon on your profile screen and choose Start Chat. Include your Bumble User ID so they can find your account quickly. You copy it by double-tapping the Bumble logo at the bottom of Settings.

When a payment fails, the feature goes missing

Men often land on this question because something stopped working. A paid feature vanished, or a purchase never showed up.

Bumble lists two common causes. The purchase may still be processing. Or it may not have gone through, which Bumble says can happen because of insufficient funds, bank restrictions or technical issues. Check your purchase history in Google Play or the App Store to see which.

If you were charged and the feature still isn't on your account, contact support with a screenshot of the purchase receipt. For store purchases, Bumble says that receipt goes to the email linked to your store account. It can't accept a bank or card statement instead.

And if a charge came through in a currency you didn't expect, Bumble says two things set it: your device location, and your App Store or Play Store account settings.

Before the next renewal, check what it's doing for your swiping

Updating a card is a small job. It's also a good moment to ask whether the plan deserves another month.

A paid plan changes how much you can do on the app. On Premium, that means unlimited likes, Advanced Filters and the Liked You tab. What a woman judges when she comes across you is still your photos and your words.

So look at the last few weeks honestly. Did the women you liked match back? Did your matches turn into dates?

If both answers are yes, keep paying, and the new card is money well spent. If you're matching but conversations fizzle, the plan isn't the fix. Your opening lines and the way you ask her out are.

If you're barely matching at all, cancel for now and put that money toward better photos. Come back to the paid plan when you have something worth multiplying.
