Messages that do not appear in a Tinder chat usually come down to one of three causes: a weak connection, an app that needs a fresh install, or a match who is no longer there. Tinder's help center says to check your internet first, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then delete and reinstall the app so you are on the latest version. If a whole chat has vanished, the other person most likely ended the match or deleted their account.

Start with the connection

Check that you have a strong internet connection. Then try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, because one of the two is often much better than the other.

It sounds basic, and that is why it works. A chat that loads halfway on a poor signal looks identical to a chat with missing messages. Give it a minute on a good connection before you decide anything is broken.

Reinstall to get the latest version

Tinder suggests deleting the app and reinstalling it. That puts you on the latest version, and then you can resend the message.

Do it when the first fix fails. Expect to sign in again afterwards, so make sure you know how you log in to Tinder before you delete it.

If it failed to send, resend it

Some messages do not vanish. They fail to send, and the chat shows a mark beside them. On iOS, tap the red exclamation mark next to it. On Android, tap the message itself.

A failed message is not a message she ignored. It never left your phone. Resend it once, and check that it sits in the chat normally before you send anything else.

If a whole chat is gone

This one is different from a message that did not load. If only one match, or a few, have disappeared, Tinder says they most likely ended the match or deleted their Tinder account. The chat goes with them.

When you unmatch someone, they disappear from your match list and you disappear from theirs. Tinder says unmatching is permanent. So a missing chat usually means she unmatched you or left the app, and nothing on your end broke.

You cannot bring it back by reinstalling. The other person has to be there for the chat to be there.

Taking it well when she is gone

It is easy to take this personally. Do not.

People unmatch for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with you. Some men get a lot of matches and a lot of dead conversations, and a missing chat is just one of them ending in a way you can see.

What you can control is how many conversations start well. Write a first line about something specific on her page, and keep early messages short and easy to answer. a dating coach's approach to messaging is that the first exchange should be light and about her, because a long wall of text is the fastest way to lose a match.

What not to do

Do not send the same message several times because the first one looks absent. If it did go through, she now sees three copies, and it reads as desperate.

Do not decide you were blocked just because a chat is gone. Tinder's explanation for a vanished chat is an ended match or a deleted account.

When nothing works

If the problem persists after the connection check and a reinstall, contact Tinder and describe the problem in as much detail as you can. Say which phone you use, what you tried, and whether it is one chat or all of them.

The more specific you are, the faster they can find the cause.

Keep swiping

Check the connection, reinstall, and resend the one that failed. If a whole chat vanished, assume the match ended and move on to the next conversation, with a better first line.
