Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Feeld and happn all let you hide your profile without deleting it, and the basic version is free on each. Bumble and OkCupid also sell a paid incognito mode that hides you from everyone you have not chosen. Hiding stops new people from seeing you, but it does not cut off the people you are already talking to.
The apps side by side
| App | The setting | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Tinder | Turn off Discovery | Stops new people seeing you, and stops you seeing or liking anyone new |
| Bumble | Snooze Mode | Hides you for 24 hours, 72 hours, a week or indefinitely |
| Bumble | Incognito Mode, part of Premium and Premium+ | Shows you only to people you have liked |
| Hinge | Pause your account | Stops you being shown to new people |
| OkCupid | Incognito, a paid subscription | Makes you invisible to everyone you have not liked or messaged |
| Feeld | Hide profile toggle under Privacy settings | Removes you from other members' Discover |
| happn | Pause your account from Settings | Makes you invisible to other users until you reactivate it |
Tinder: turn off Discovery
Tap the profile icon, go to Settings, and switch off Enable Discovery. Your page is no longer shown to new people, and you also cannot view recommendations or Like anyone new.
You can still chat with the people you have already connected with. One detail is easy to miss. People you already Liked may still see you and match with you, so a like you sent before turning Discovery off can still become a conversation.
Bumble: Snooze, or Incognito
Snooze Mode hides your page for 24 hours, 72 hours, a week or indefinitely, and it does not delete anything. You can keep chatting with people you have already connected with. Connections where nobody has started a conversation expire, so a long snooze costs you the quiet ones.
Incognito Mode is the paid route. It is part of Bumble Premium and Premium+, and it shows your page only to people you have liked. A woman you have not liked never sees you.
Hinge: pause
In Hinge, open the settings gear and pause your account. You stop being shown to new people, and you keep chatting with the people you already know.
Two things to know. Pausing does not pause a subscription, so you keep paying if you have one. And a Like you sent before pausing can still turn into a match.
OkCupid, Feeld and happn
OkCupid's Incognito is a paid subscription. It makes your page invisible to everyone you have not liked or messaged.
Feeld has a Hide profile toggle under Privacy settings. It removes you from other members' Discover, while existing connections can still see you and chat. Feeld's incognito feature for Majestic members is a separate option.
happn lets you pause your account from Settings. After that your page is invisible to other users until you reactivate it.
Free hiding and paid hiding are different things
The free settings are all pauses. They tell the app to stop showing you to new people, and they leave your current conversations alone.
The paid modes are about choosing. They keep you hidden but let you appear to the people you like. That is the only way to look around and still approach women without being found by everyone else.
If your goal is a break, use the free setting. If your goal is to stay hidden from most people while still contacting some, that is what incognito is for.
Why men hide their page, and what to do before you do
There are good reasons. You may want a break, or you may be seeing someone and want to see how it goes. You may not want a coworker to find you.
There is one reason to think twice. Some men hide the page because it is not working. They get little interest, so they pause it, tweak nothing, and come back later hoping for a different result. A pause does not repair photos. If the problem is the page, the time off is better spent fixing it: a lead photo with a clear face in daylight, a couple of photos that show a real life, and a short, specific line about what you do and what you like.
A quick way to choose
Want a rest? Use Discovery off on Tinder, Snooze on Bumble, Pause on Hinge or happn, or Hide profile on Feeld. Want to browse unseen? Pay for incognito on Bumble or OkCupid. Want a better result when you come back? Fix the page while it is hidden.
