No dating app is best to pay for in general. The right one is the app where you already get replies from women you want, with a paid tier that sells the one feature you are missing. Each app puts its useful features in different tiers, so you pick the feature first and the app second.
What the paid tiers add
Here is how the four main apps divide their features. Prices and bundles change, so this table leaves them out on purpose.
| App | Paid tiers | What they add |
|---|---|---|
| Tinder | Plus, Gold, Platinum | The tiers stack. Plus adds unlimited likes, rewinds, Passport and incognito. Gold adds seeing who likes you and weekly Super Likes. Platinum adds prioritized likes. |
| Hinge | Hinge+ and HingeX | Subscribers see all incoming likes at once and set advanced preferences. HingeX adds priority placement for outgoing likes. |
| Bumble | Boost, Premium, Premium+ | Boost adds unlimited likes and extending matches. Premium adds seeing who liked you, advanced filters, incognito and travel mode. Premium+ adds extras such as photo insights. |
| OkCupid | Paid tiers, plus Incognito | Unlimited likes, seeing who liked you before you like them, and a separate Incognito subscription. |
Check the in-app subscription screen for what is in each tier before you pay, because bundles move around.
The feature that matters most
Look down the table and one idea repeats. Most paid tiers sell either more reach for what you send, or a view of the women who already liked you.
Those two solve different problems. If women are liking you and you miss them in the stack, you need the view of who liked you. If you like women and hear back from few of them, you need the tier that puts your likes in front of them sooner. Paying for the wrong one is the usual waste.
Why paying is not weakness
Plenty of men refuse to pay for anything on principle, as if paying were needy. a dating coach thinks that bias is a hindrance. His point is that dating apps are businesses, they make money from paying members, and so they have every reason to keep those members happy.
His standard for a purchase is whether it is cheap enough to test and whether the test shows a difference. Paying blindly for every extra is just as silly as refusing everything.
Where to put the money
If your matches come from women liking you first, a tier that shows who liked you is where the money goes. On Tinder that is Gold. On Hinge it is the subscriber view of all incoming likes. On Bumble and OkCupid it is the tier that shows who liked you.
If you do most of the liking, look for the tier built for outgoing likes. Tinder's Platinum and Hinge's HingeX are aimed at that.
If your problem is a limit, the unlimited likes and rewinds of Tinder Plus or Bumble Boost are the cheapest answer. Be honest about whether you actually run out. A man who likes ten women a night does not need unlimited likes.
What a paid tier cannot do
coach calls paid extras multipliers, and the flaw is simple: multiply zero by anything and you still have zero. If your free account gets almost no likes, a tier will show you an empty list or push a weak first photo to women sooner.
So fix the free version first. A clear lead photo, honest written answers, and a first message that is about her. When a free account brings in some conversations in an ordinary week, a paid tier has something real to work on.
How to test one
Change one thing only. Keep your photos, your words and the times you use the app the same, buy one tier for a short stretch, and count dates, not just matches.
If the dates clearly go up, the tier earned its place. If they stay flat, cancel it. Do not run two paid tiers on two apps at once, because you will not know which one worked.
The short version
Pick the app where you already get some response. Pick the tier that sells the feature you lack. Test it for a short stretch and judge it by what happens away from the screen. The best app to pay for is the one that puts you across a table from women you like.
