Tap Rewind. In the app it sits in the top right corner, and on desktop it is next to the name of the person now showing. It takes you back to the last woman you passed on, so you can Like her and send her a message instead. If you want back everyone you have passed on, you can reset all your passes in Settings, with one warning about women you have passed on twice.

Rewind brings back the last one

Rewind exists for exactly this moment. Your thumb moved faster than your brain, she is gone, and you wish she was not.

Rewind takes you back to the last woman you passed on. She reappears, and you can look at her again and Like her if you want to. The sooner you use it, the better, because it works on your most recent pass. Pass on a few more women first, and the one you wanted is no longer the last one.

Where to find Rewind

It depends on where you are using OkCupid.

  • In the app: look in the top right corner of the screen.
  • On desktop: look beside the name of the person now showing.

Tap or click it once, and the woman you just passed on comes back.

Resetting every pass at once

Sometimes the problem is not one woman. You were in a bad mood, you passed on a whole evening's worth of people, and you want a fresh start.

OkCupid lets you reset all your passes. In the app, go to Profile, then Settings, then Privacy, and choose Reset under passes. After that, the women you passed on can show up again as you browse.

This is a big step, so be sure you want it. It brings back everyone, not just the few you regret, and you will be sorting through the same faces again.

A reset makes the most sense when something about you has changed. Maybe you spent months passing on every woman who wanted something serious, and now you want the same. Maybe you passed on women a few years older than you and have since realized that was a mistake. In cases like those, the women you skipped are worth a second look. If you just want one woman back, Rewind is the better tool.

Passing twice is final

OkCupid's Rewind page carries one warning worth remembering. Once you have passed on someone more than once, you will not be able to see her again.

So if a woman comes back after a reset and you pass on her a second time, treat that as your final answer. There is no third chance. If you are unsure about someone, it is better to Like her, or leave her and decide later, than to pass on her twice by accident.

Why one lost pass matters less than it feels

It is easy to feel that the woman you passed on by accident was the one. She usually was not.

She was one attractive woman among many on the app, seen for a few seconds. You did not know her. She did not know you. a dating coach's point about online dating is that the supply of women is huge and the effort is small once your page works. A single pass, even a mistaken one, is not a lost opportunity so much as one less face in a very long line.

Use Rewind when you can. When you cannot, let her go and keep browsing. The right attitude on the apps is the same as anywhere else: plenty of options, no clinging to any single one.

Read her page before you pass

The real fix is to stop passing by accident.

Most accidental passes happen during fast, half-attentive browsing, with a thumb on autopilot. Slow down. Look at all her photos, read what she wrote, and glance at your Match %. Then decide.

That slower read helps you both ways. You pass on fewer women you would have liked. And you Like fewer women you were lukewarm about, which matters on a free account where Likes are limited each day. coach has noted that men who get choosier about who they show interest in tend to get better results, because their effort goes to women they actually want.

Bring her back, then send a message

If Rewind brings her back and you Like her, do not stop there. On OkCupid you can write to a woman once you have Liked her, even before she Likes you back.

Use that. Send a short message that reacts to one specific thing on her page, with a bit of personality, and leave her something easy to answer. If her page is full of hiking photos, "Every photo is on a mountain. Do you ever come down, or should I bring snacks up?" works better than "hey, you're cute".

You nearly lost her once. Give her a real reason to notice you this time.
