The pages Tinder publishes do not put a timer on a Super Like you have already sent. It stays in place for the woman you sent it to, and it reaches her card stack with a bright blue star when her turn comes. The free weekly Super Likes that come with Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum are different: Tinder says those expire if you do not use them. The ones you buy belong to your account until you spend them.

Two clocks, not one

People ask this question as if there were a single answer, and there are really two. One is about the Super Like you have sent. The other is about the Super Likes you are still holding.

The sent one is waiting on her. The unsent ones are waiting on you. They follow different rules, so it helps to keep them apart.

How long until she sees yours

When you send a Super Like, Tinder prioritizes you for the woman you sent it to. If she Likes you back, you have a match. Tinder does not say how long that takes, and it cannot, because it depends on when she opens the app and what she does there.

Tinder also explains that a woman who is told she was Super Liked may not see it first. It appears in her stack eventually, marked with a bright blue star. If she subscribes to Gold or Platinum, she can also spot it in her Likes You grid.

So the honest answer to "how long does it take" is that it can be quick or slow, and it may never get a reply. Tinder's own description of its matching favors people who are active, and active at the same time. A woman who opens the app every evening will meet your star sooner than one who opens it twice a month.

What the free weekly ones do

If you subscribe to Gold or Platinum, you get free Super Likes each week. Tinder says they expire if you do not use them.

That is the only expiry Tinder describes, and it is easy to waste. A man who forgets to open the app loses that week's supply, and next week brings a fresh one rather than a pile. If you pay for a tier that includes them, treat the weekly supply the way you would treat a meal credit that disappears if you do not use it.

What happens to the ones you buy

You can also buy Super Likes in packages. Go to Settings and tap Get Super Likes.

Tinder's help pages do not give a purchased Super Like an end date. What they do say is that purchased extras such as Super Likes and Boosts cannot be moved to another account. If you delete your account and start a new one, they are gone. So do not stock up and then rebuild your account a week later.

Sending one and wanting it back

Nothing about a Super Like requires you to wait helplessly. If you tap the star by accident, the Rewind feature can undo it, and in that case it will not show up for her at all. Rewind needs a paid subscription, so on a free account a sent Super Like stays sent.

That is one more reason to look at her card before you tap. The star is quick to send and slow to take back.

What to do while you wait

Until she answers, there is nothing more to do about her. What you can do is use the time on other women.

  • Keep swiping selectively. a dating coach's advice for the apps is to Like only the women you would honestly take out.
  • Check your matches daily and answer the ones you already have.
  • Do not send a second Super Like to the same woman because the first one seems quiet. You only have so many, and a woman who has not answered has not answered.

When she does match with you, your first message matters more than the star did. Write something specific about her pictures or her words, and keep it short.

When a Super Like is worth buying

a dating coach says it can make sense to buy a Super Like, or a rose on other apps, to get seen by a woman who would otherwise never see you. He adds the condition that matters. Do not spend money blindly. Try it, count what it does for you, and stop if it does nothing.

A simple test works well. Use your free weekly Super Likes on women you actually want to meet, and track how many turn into matches compared with your ordinary Likes. If the star clearly beats the normal Like for you, a package may earn its cost. If it does not, you have saved the money and learned something real.

Either way, the star only gets her attention. The woman decides on your pictures, your words and the first message you send once she says yes.
