Tinder's help pages describe two ways to get Super Likes, and both involve money. You can buy a package, or you can subscribe to Tinder Gold or Platinum and get free weekly ones. The pages I read do not describe a free allotment for a free account, so check the star in your own app before you count on one.

How to send one

Tap the blue star icon while you are looking at someone's card. Tinder says a Super Like prioritizes you for that woman.

That is the whole mechanic. You pick one woman, and you tell her, before any conversation, that you chose her on purpose.

The two ways to get them

The first is a package. Tap the profile icon, then Settings, then Get Super Likes. You buy a set and spend them as you like.

The second is a subscription. Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum subscribers get free weekly Super Likes, which expire if they go unused. Tinder Plus does not list weekly Super Likes among its features. They start with Gold.

So "without paying" has a narrow answer: not unless you already pay for Gold or Platinum.

Seeing who liked you

Many men searching this also want to know who liked them. The Likes page, which shows who has already liked you, is available only to Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum subscribers.

There is a free way to peek, though. Secret Admirer lets you pick one of four hidden cards and reveals one person who has already Liked you, no subscription needed. Gold or Platinum gives you the full Likes You feature. That is a taste, not the whole list, and it is worth trying once.

If a woman Super Liked you

If you are notified that someone Super Liked you, open Tinder and keep swiping. Her card will appear with a bright blue star icon. Gold and Platinum members can also spot her in the Likes You grid.

Do not read too much into it. She chose to signal interest, and it is yours to answer. If you like her, swipe right and write something that shows you read her page. If you do not, pass.

When a Super Like is worth it

A Super Like removes the question of whether you are interested. That is its value, and it is also its cost: you cannot be casually curious afterward.

It works best on a woman you picked for a specific reason, such as something she wrote or a place she is standing. It also works on a woman who gets a great many Likes, where being a deliberate choice sets you apart from a pile of identical taps.

a dating coach's rule for anything paid on a dating app is to treat it as a multiplier on results you already have. A Super Like is a small multiplier on one woman. If your ordinary Likes are not producing matches, the cause is what she sees when she opens your page, and a star on top of it will not help.

Do not buy a package to fix a slow week

Packages feel like a shortcut because they are quick. But a handful of Super Likes sent to the most attractive women in your area, with the same lead photo and the same silence afterward, gets you the same silence in a more expensive form.

If you want to test it, buy the smallest package once. Send them to women you would be glad to meet. Count the matches against your normal week. Keep it only if the count changed.

A star followed by "hey" is a mismatch. The signal says she is special, and the message says you have nothing to say about her. Name the thing you noticed. One specific line does more than any amount of paid reach.

The short answer

A free account cannot count on a Super Like from anything Tinder describes. They come from a package, or from Gold or Platinum. If you want to look at who liked you without paying, try Secret Admirer, and save any Super Like for a woman you chose for a reason.
