How Does Travel Mode Work on Bumble?

Travel Mode lets you appear in a different city on Bumble before you get there. You search for the place in your settings, and from then on the app fills your People tab with people from that area and shows you to them instead of to people at home. It needs a Premium or Premium+ subscription, and Bumble suggests it for planning ahead before a trip.

1. Tap the settings icon from your profile tab.
2. Tap Travel, which sits under Location.
3. Search for the place you want to virtually travel to.

That is the whole setup. You can turn it off or change the place at any time, the same way you turned it on.

Four things change once you pick a place.

Your People tab fills with women from that area. That is the point of the feature.

You appear only in the place you chose. Back home, Bumble notes one exception, covered below: a woman you liked before switching who has Premium can still find you in her Liked You tab.

A "travel mode" banner goes on your profile, Bumble says, once you switch it on.

It runs for a set window. Bumble's help page says that once you search for a place, it shows you people from that area for the next seven days.

It does not move your phone. Bumble says Travel Mode will not change your actual GPS, and you are only in that place virtually.

You can only be in one place at a time. If your trip has two stops, you switch from one to the other rather than showing in both.

Likes you sent at home before switching behave differently depending on the woman. If she has Premium, she can still find you in her Liked You tab and match with you from there. If she does not, she may not see you again to like you back, because you now only show up in your travel location.

And if a place you used before will not come up, Bumble says it may be because its service is no longer available there. You will need to pick from the places it does offer.

Look at your filters before a trip, too. Bumble's filter page warns that the more filters you apply, the fewer people you are likely to see, and a smaller place can run out of women fast. Check them before you go rather than after the deck goes quiet.

The whole value of Travel Mode is the head start. A trip is short, and the evenings you have free are fixed. If you only start swiping the night you arrive, most of your trip goes by before anyone is ready to meet.

So switch it on a few days before you fly, with that seven day window in mind. Spend a couple of evenings swiping on women you would genuinely like to meet, and start conversations while you are still at home. By the time you land, you want at least one evening already agreed, not a pile of new matches you have not answered.

A simple rhythm for a weekend trip looks like this. Switch Travel Mode on the Tuesday before a Friday flight. Swipe for a few minutes on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, and reply the same day to anyone who matches. By Thursday, suggest a specific evening to the woman you are getting on with best. If one plan is set before you board, the feature has done its job.

The banner already tells her you are visiting. Your job is to make the visit easy to plan around.

Say when you arrive and which nights you are free, early and without fuss. A line that tells her you are in town from Thursday to Sunday and asks whether she knows a good spot near where she lives does more work than a week of small talk. It gives her something to answer and a reason to answer soon.

Do not dress it up as something it is not. Pretending you live there falls apart the moment she suggests a plan for the following month. Be what the banner says you are: a man who is in town for a few days and would like to spend one of them with her.

When you get home, switch Travel Mode off through your settings, the same way you turned it on.

While it is on, Bumble says you only appear in the place you picked. The sooner you switch back, the sooner you are in front of the women you can actually see again next week.
