It shows up under the company that took the payment, and the order number on your receipt tells you which company that was. An order number starting with MK means you bought in the iPhone app and Apple billed you. GPA means Google Play billed you. TNDR means you bought on tinder.com, or paid by card in the Android app, and Tinder billed you. Find that number first, and the rest of the question answers itself.

Why there is no single answer

Tinder sells three subscriptions: Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum. You subscribe from your own icon, then Settings. The paid plan is the same product wherever you buy it, but the billing is handled by a different company depending on the device and the store.

That is why two men who both bought Plus see different things. One finds a charge from Apple in his App Store purchases. Another finds a card payment from Tinder itself. What the line reads on a card statement is set by the company that billed you and your card issuer. The pages Tinder publishes do not list an exact statement text, so do not trust a list of names someone posted online. The order number is the reliable key.

Where to find the receipt

Where you look depends on the prefix.

MK, Apple. Tinder's payment history help points iPhone purchases to Apple Support. Apple's own subscription and purchase history screens list what you pay for and the order details.

GPA, Google Play. Tinder points Android purchases to the Google Play Store for the list of subscriptions and order history. Open the Play Store and look under your payments and subscriptions.

TNDR, tinder.com or card on Android. For a purchase made on tinder.com, Tinder says the confirmation email sent after the purchase includes a receipt showing the details of the transaction. Search your inbox for it.

If you cannot find the email, check the spam folder, and check any other address you might have signed up with.

How Tinder says you can pay

Tinder says payment methods include most credit and debit cards, PayPal, and Venmo on the web only. It adds that the options vary by location and device. So a man who paid with PayPal on the web will see a different trail from one who paid through the App Store, even though both bought Plus.

What you are actually paying for

Check the bill against what the plan includes. Tinder Plus gives you as many daily Likes and Rewinds as you want. It also covers Passport Mode, hiding ads and going incognito. Gold adds weekly Super Likes, a Boost each month and the feature that shows you who has liked you. Platinum adds Prioritized Likes on top.

Tinder also says some Plus subscribers may see ads because of testing, and that the monthly Boost is not available on weekly subscriptions. If the plan you see on the bill does not match the features you expected, those two notes are worth reading before you write to anyone.

If a charge looks wrong

Match the order number to the biller, then go to that biller. For an Apple or Google charge, the refund or cancellation request goes to Apple Support or Google Play Support. For a TNDR charge, you write to Tinder through its Help Center, from the same email address you used to buy, and put the order number in the message.

A second charge for the same plan is worth checking quickly, because the first one may simply be the earlier period and the second the renewal. Read the dates on both before you assume it is an error.

Check that it earns its place

A subscription that renews on its own deserves a regular look. Write down three numbers from your free weeks: how many women match with you, how many answer your first message, and how many agree to meet. Then watch the same three on Plus.

a dating coach does not accept the idea that a man should never pay for a dating app. He says paying is probably worth it in most cases, as long as the price is not extreme, and he adds that you should test and adjust constantly. His other point is that a paid feature multiplies what is already there. A man with decent pictures and good first messages gets more from it. A man with neither gets the same empty inbox, now with a charge attached.

If the numbers rise, keep paying and keep the receipt where you can find it. If they do not, cancel in the place that billed you, and put the money into better pictures instead.
