A man who splits his weeks between two cities usually assumes his dating life is spread thinner. It is worse than thinner. Two cities does not cut the work in half, it doubles it, then sets the two halves running at different speeds.
That is not a romantic problem. It is a scheduling one, which is worth knowing, because scheduling problems have answers.
Two cities is two operations, not one
One city gives you one set of conversations moving at one speed, and you can hold that in your head between meetings. Two cities gives you two, and the speed of each one is set by a calendar you did not write.
The woman you started talking to on Thursday is in the city you fly out of on Sunday. The one who answered this morning is in the city you will not see again for three weeks. Neither of them knows that, and neither of them is going to wait for your calendar to come back around.
The gap between visits is where it dies
Interest has a short shelf life on the apps. A conversation that was warm on the day you left is a stranger's name by the time you land again, and opening with an apology for the delay is the worst possible restart.
So the man who travels ends up doing the one thing that never works. He goes quiet for two weeks, then tries to revive six conversations at once on the Tuesday he gets back. It reads as exactly what it is.
The apps mostly show you the city you are standing in
Most apps put you in front of people near where your phone is. The city you are not in largely disappears while you are gone, which means the supply of new matches there stops at the same time the answering stops.
There is a fix. Most apps let you set your location before a trip, and it works. It also means remembering to do it, on the right day, for the right city, while you are packing and finishing something for work. Nobody remembers that for long.
The two things men try instead
The first is to pick a city. Run the apps where you spend the most nights and let the other one go. That is a reasonable call if one city is clearly home, and a bad one if the split is closer to even, because you have just halved the number of women you could be meeting in order to make your phone easier to manage.
The second is to run both anyway, badly, in the gaps. Twenty minutes in an airport, nothing for five days, a burst on a Sunday night. That produces matches and almost no dates, and it is the version most travelling men are actually living.
What running both properly takes
It is not complicated work. It is daily work, in two places, on days that do not line up.
Somebody has to be in both accounts every day rather than every fortnight. Somebody has to read who has shown interest and set aside the women who do not fit what you said you wanted. Somebody has to carry the conversations at the speed a normal person answers. And somebody has to propose a specific evening inside a window where you will physically be in that city, which is the part that makes the whole thing worth doing at all.
Then the same again for the second city, on a different rhythm, in a different week.
What that looks like when it is not your job
That is the shape of the Online Dating Concierge. Our team redoes your photos and your whole profile first, then runs the apps for you, on every app you want to be on. If your dating life includes the selective ones, Raya, The League, Luxy or Inner Circle, those get run too, on the accounts you already have.
Two cities is handled the way the rest of it is handled, as part of the job. When your location or your schedule changes, the plan changes with it rather than waiting for you to notice on the plane. Interest gets read against your terms in both places. Conversations get carried in both places. The evenings get proposed on days you are actually there.
What reaches you is a date on your calendar in the city you are standing in.
Complicated is the argument for it, not against it
The objection men raise here is that their life is too complicated for a service to handle. It is worth turning that over.
A simple life is the one you can run yourself. One city, ordinary hours, a free evening most nights, and you do not need anybody. Complicated is the exact condition that defeats a man doing this alone in the gaps, because the gaps are where the complication lives.
Two cities, a schedule that moves, and a month where three of the four weeks are travel is not a reason this will not work. It is the reason the arrangement exists.
The part that is still yours
You say who you want to meet, the same terms in both cities or different ones in each. You look at the photo set once and say what you think of it. Then you turn up for a drink and are yourself, which was the only part you wanted to be doing in the first place.
The promise attached to it is narrow and plain. Your first date within a week, or we keep working. From there the target is 2-3 dates each week, in whichever city you happen to be in that week.
If your calendar is the reason your apps are dead in both places, that is a fixable problem, and it is not fixable by you doing more of it in an airport.
