Six apps feels like six times the chances. It is the most reasonable sounding wrong idea in online dating, and almost every man arrives at it on his own.
The instinct is fine. Wider net, more women, better odds. The trouble is that an app is not a net you leave out. It is a thing that only gives you anything back in proportion to what you put in that week, and there is a hard limit on how many of those a working man can feed.
What an app actually needs from you
Three things, and none of them are one off.
It needs a profile that is genuinely good rather than filled in. It needs you there most days, because an account nobody has opened since Sunday goes quiet by Thursday, and that is the single most common reason a man's apps die on him. And it needs somebody answering the women who do write, quickly enough that the conversation is still warm, then asking for an evening before it turns into a texting habit.
Miss the first and the other two have nothing to work with. Miss the second and the third and you have a good profile nobody is being shown.
That is the real cost of an app. Not the sign up. The week.
What splitting yourself across six of them does
Run that cost six times and look at what you actually have.
Six profiles, of which one is any good and five were built in ten minutes on a Sunday night with the same four photos. Six inboxes, of which you check two. Four accounts that have not been opened in a fortnight and have gone quiet without telling you. And a general feeling of being busy with your dating life, which is doing a lot of emotional work and producing almost nothing.
The men who feel worst about online dating are very often the men on the most apps. It is not a coincidence and it is not bad luck. They have spread one man's worth of attention across six places that each needed a man's worth of attention, and every one of them is now underfed.
The arithmetic almost nobody runs
Take the number of evenings a week you genuinely give to this. For most men it is two, in scattered ten minute pieces.
Now divide those two evenings across six apps. Each one gets about twenty minutes a week. Twenty minutes is enough to swipe a bit and leave four women on read. It is not enough to answer properly, carry two or three conversations, and pin down a night.
Put the same two evenings into two apps and each one gets an hour. An hour a week is still not much, but it is above the line where an app starts behaving as if you exist.
Same effort, same man, wildly different result. The only thing that changed was how thinly it was spread.
Two done properly
Doing an app properly is a short list. Photographs that were chosen rather than assembled. Written lines that sound like a person talking. Being there daily, even briefly. Answering women while they are still interested. Suggesting a specific evening at a specific place instead of letting it become a pen pal arrangement.
Two apps run like that will produce more dates than six apps signed up for and abandoned. Not slightly more. It is not close, and every man who has tried both knows which stretch produced the dates.
The selective apps are a separate question
If your dating life includes the invite only ones, and for a lot of men with money it does, the same rule applies with more force rather than less.
An account on Raya, The League, Luxy or Inner Circle that you opened once and left alone is worth nothing, and it costs you something to know it is sitting there. Those accounts reward being run consistently in exactly the way the mainstream ones do. A dormant account is a dormant account whoever is on the other side of it.
What happens to this question when you stop doing it yourself
Here is the part that changes the shape of the whole argument.
The two apps rule exists because your attention is finite. It is a rationing rule, and rationing rules stop applying the moment the thing being rationed is no longer coming out of your week.
When somebody else runs the accounts, every app you want to be on gets the daily attention that made two the right number in the first place. The profile is good on all of them because it was built once, properly, and carried across. The women who write get answered the same day. Evenings get proposed on whichever app the woman happens to be on.
So the honest answer to how many apps you should be on stops being two, and starts being however many make sense for the man you are and the women you want to meet. That is not a trick. It is just what happens when the constraint is removed.
The test worth running this week
Open every dating app on your phone. Look at the date of the last message you sent on each one.
If more than two of them are older than a week, you are not on six apps. You are on two apps and paying rent on four more in the form of a small, constant sense that you should be doing something about them.
Delete the four and do two properly, starting Monday. That is a genuinely good plan and it works, provided you defend the hours.
If you already know you will not defend them, because the last three attempts went the same way, the arrangement that actually fits your week is having somebody else run them. Our team redoes your dating photos and your whole profile, then runs the accounts every day, on every app you want to be on, the selective ones included, on the accounts you already hold. Your first date within a week, or we keep working. After that the target is 2-3 dates each week.
See if you qualify and we will look at what is actually on your phone, or read what the Online Dating Concierge covers first.
