You can close the account, and Hinge says it deletes everything on it, including your chat history and your interactions with other members. What a fresh account does for you is a separate question, and the answer is usually less than men hope. It gives you an empty list of matches and the same results, unless you also change what women see.

What deleting does

To close a Hinge account, sign in, tap the Photo Icon, tap the Gear Icon for Account Settings, scroll to the bottom, tap Delete Account and follow the prompts.

Hinge says that deleting the account removes all of your content, in line with its Privacy Policy. It also says that once the account is deleted, your personal data is permanently removed from its servers. Conversations are included. So there is no archive to restore from later. Every match and every message goes.

Uninstalling the app does not do any of this. Removing the icon from your phone leaves the account and everything on it exactly where it was.

Settle your subscription first

Money is the part that catches men out, and it depends on where you bought the plan.

If you bought a subscription through Hinge payment, deleting the account cancels it immediately. You lose the remaining benefits at once, and you would have to buy a new subscription on any new account.

If you bought through Apple or Google Play, deleting the app or the account does not cancel anything. Hinge says you have to cancel in the App Store or Google Play yourself. A man who deletes first and checks later can find a charge on his statement for an account that no longer exists.

The safe order is to check how you pay, cancel where you are billed, confirm that the plan has ended, and only then delete the account.

Read your chats before you go

Deleting is permanent, so look through the conversations first. If there is a woman you want to keep talking to, move her to a number before the account goes. A friendly line suggesting you carry on by text, ideally after a loose plan to meet, is far better than losing her to a button you tapped in a bad mood.

Save anything you want to keep, too. Hinge says the conversations are permanently removed once the account is deleted, so a screenshot taken today is the only copy you will have.

Does a fresh account give you a fresh start?

This is where most men go wrong. They imagine that a new account will be shown to women as new, with a boost, and that the old results will not follow them.

The coaching material behind this site points the other way. It says Hinge keeps track of how often accounts are deleted and re-created on the same device or internet connection. It says men who keep resetting to chase a new-user bonus are likely to be banned. Hinge's help pages, for their part, do not describe deleting and returning as a way to improve how you are shown.

A ban is a bad trade for a dry spell. A banned account cannot create a new Hinge account, and the appeal route gives little detail about why. Do not gamble your access to the app on a theory about a bonus.

What actually changes results

If your matches dried up, the account is rarely the cause. What women see is. The same photos and the same prompt answers on a brand new account will get the same response, only with nobody in your chats.

So change the inputs. Put a clear, well lit photo of your face first. Cut the weakest pictures. Rewrite any answer that could have been written by any man. Change one thing at a time and give each change a week, so that you can tell what helped.

Check how you behave in the app too. Sending likes to everyone, sending "hey" as a first message and letting good chats drift for days all cost you matches, and a new account does not remove any of them.

When closing the account is the right call

Delete when you are finished with Hinge: you are in a relationship, you are done with the dating apps, or you want your content gone from Hinge for good.

If you only want a rest, Hinge has a Pause setting that hides you from new people while keeping your matches and chats. If you want a clean slate, edit the page you have, because you can change photos and prompt answers whenever you like. Either one costs you far less than a deletion.
