Until you close it, or until you leave it alone for two years. Hinge's privacy policy says it closes an account on its own if you do not use it for two years. A closed account is no longer visible to other members. Before that point, your account and your matches stay put, whether you open the app daily or never.
Does Hinge delete your account automatically
Yes, but only after that long stretch. The automatic closing Hinge describes is the two-year one, so a quiet week, a quiet month or a quiet six months does not close you.
Men sometimes ask the opposite question: when does my page stop showing up? Your page keeps appearing to the women Hinge recommends it to for as long as the account is open and not paused. It stops when you pause it, close it, or when Hinge closes it at the two-year mark.
Deleting the app is not deleting the account
Uninstalling the Hinge app does not delete your account. Your account, your page and your chats stay exactly where they were. To close the account, you have to use Delete Account in Account Settings.
This catches a lot of men who think they quit. They delete the app after a bad week, and the account stays open for as long as it stays open. Your page may continue to be shown while you are gone, and women may keep liking you without ever getting an answer.
If you want a break and not a goodbye, pause.
How pausing works
Pausing keeps the account and stops it being shown to people who have not seen it yet. Tap your Photo icon, then the Gear icon, and turn the Pause switch on. You can still chat with the matches you already have. When you are ready, unpause at any time.
That makes pausing the right setting for a man who is traveling, dating one woman, or just tired. It also protects you from a pile of Likes you would answer a week late.
What closing does to a subscription
Deleting your account immediately cancels a subscription you bought through Hinge's own payment. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, you have to cancel it there. Do both checks before you delete, so you are not left paying for an account that is gone.
Pausing does not pause a subscription, so a paused account on a paid plan still bills.
What you lose when you close it
Hinge says that by deleting your account you will no longer have access to your past matches and messages. If a conversation matters, move it to a phone number before you press Delete. A woman you were getting along with should not disappear because you tidied up.
Think of closing as the last step of leaving, not a way to take a break. A break is what pausing is for.
The 14-day hiding is not your account going quiet
A match with no activity for 14 days is hidden automatically in your Matches tab. That is a setting for your chat list. It does not remove your page, it does not say anything about whether you are active, and you can unhide the chat any time.
People confuse the two. A cluttered Hidden section does not mean Hinge is retiring you. It means conversations went cold.
What to do with that
If you are using Hinge to meet women, the thing that decides how long the account stays useful is not Hinge's clock. It is how often you act on it. a dating coach describes online dating as a numbers game, and a numbers game is won by showing up in a steady rhythm, not by logging in once a month and hoping the backlog is full.
Open the app on a regular schedule. Answer anyone waiting on you, and send Likes to women you would actually meet. Check your page every so often to make sure your photos still look like you. If you are going to disappear for a while, pause it. If you are done, use Delete Account instead of deleting the app.
An account does not go stale on a timer you can see. It goes stale because nobody is tending it, and that part is up to you.
