When Tinder Gold is missing after you paid for it and your swiping looks the same as before, the usual cause is that Tinder does not recognize the subscription on the account you are using. The fix is Restore Purchase. Tinder says restoring a purchase does not start a new transaction. It reconnects a subscription that is already active. If that does not work, the cause is usually that the subscription belongs to a different account.

Work out what changed before you tap anything

Gold rarely stops for no reason. Think back to the last time it worked, and ask what you did between then and now.

Did you switch phones? Did you delete the app and sign in again? Did you delete your account and make a new one? Did you pay with Apple or Google Play, or with a card on Tinder.com? Each answer points to a different fix, and the second half of this article follows them. Take thirty seconds to answer the four questions first, because the right fix is faster than trying all of them in turn.

Restore Purchase on iPhone or Android

If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, restore it from inside the app.

  1. Tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Restore Purchase.

Tinder says this reconnects an existing active subscription and does not charge you again. Give the app a minute afterwards, then check whether the Gold features have returned.

If you paid by card on Tinder.com

A subscription bought directly with a credit card is restored a different way. Log in on Tinder.com, open Manage Payment Account or Restore Purchases, and enter the Restore Token from your confirmation email.

If you cannot find the email, search your inbox for the confirmation from Tinder before you do anything else. The token is in that message, and you will need it.

Why it goes wrong in the first place

Tinder says Restore Purchase often fixes problems after switching phones or recreating an account. That tells you the usual causes.

You got a new phone and signed in fresh, and the app did not pick up the subscription. Or you deleted your account and made a new one, and the subscription stayed attached to the old one. Or you are signed in with a different login than the one you paid with.

Before you tap Restore, check that you are on the account you paid with. A man with two logins on the same phone is the most common case.

One subscription, one account

A Tinder subscription works with only one Tinder account at a time. If you are trying to use Gold on a second account, it will not show up there, however many times you restore it.

If you made a second account and want the subscription on it, the plain reading of Tinder's rule is that the subscription follows one account at a time. Decide which account you want to keep. Do not keep two and expect both to get the benefit.

If it still does not work

Restore, then check the account, then check how you paid. That covers the ordinary causes.

If you have done all three and the features are still missing, take it to Tinder's help center. Have the receipt or the confirmation email ready. We cannot see inside your account, and the Tinder pages we read give no further step to try.

What Gold cannot do even when it works

Many men go looking for a fault because Gold did not change their results. Sometimes nothing is broken.

a dating coach's view of Tinder Gold is that it used to make a big difference, and that Platinum has since pushed Gold down a rung. He says paid features on dating apps are multipliers. A multiplier helps when you already get some matches and adds nothing to zero.

So after the features are back, judge Gold by what it does for you over two weeks. Count the matches you get and the conversations you start, the same way you did without it. If there is no change, the page is the likelier problem. A weak first photo or a thin bio gets passed over whatever tier you pay for.

a dating coach's advice on paid features is to test once and measure. If Gold helps, keep it. If it does nothing after two weeks, drop it and put the money toward better photos. Then ask a woman out within a handful of messages, since the date is what you are actually paying for.
