Bumble running slowly on an iPhone usually comes down to a weak connection, an out-of-date app, a nearly full phone, or a battery saver or VPN interfering. Bumble's help center lists a short set of fixes, and the order below runs from the quickest to the most irritating. Bumble also keeps a list of known bugs, and one of them is that the app is slow or will not load while Travel Mode is on. A weak signal can also stop profiles loading or messages sending.

Start with your connection

Bumble says a weak or unstable internet connection can cause trouble loading profiles, sending messages or updating your account. That is the cheapest thing to test, so test it first.

Move to Wi-Fi if you are on mobile data, or to a steady mobile signal if you are on Wi-Fi. Bumble also suggests switching Airplane Mode on and then off, or trying a different network entirely. If the app is quick on a friend's network and slow on yours, you have your answer, and the app is not at fault.

Update the app

Bumble says outdated versions can cause glitches or crashes. On an iPhone, open the App Store, search for Bumble and tap Update if the button is there.

Do this even if the app feels fine otherwise. Slowness is often the first sign that you are a version or two behind, and it takes under a minute.

Close it, or log out and back in

If Bumble is not responding, Bumble suggests fully closing it from the recent apps list and opening it again. Going back to your home screen is not enough if the app is still sitting in that list.

If that does nothing, log out and log back in to refresh the session. In the app that means your profile icon, then Settings, then scrolling down to Log out. Have your login ready before you do it.

Storage, battery saver, VPN and ad blockers

Bumble says low device storage can make apps slow down or crash, and suggests deleting apps or files you do not use. Check your storage in your iPhone settings. A phone that is almost full struggles with everything, not only Bumble.

Bumble also suggests turning off battery saver, VPNs and ad blockers for a while, because each one can interfere with how the app connects or runs in the background. Switch them off, test the app, and switch back on whatever you still want.

Restart the phone

The last standard step is a full restart. Bumble says to turn the phone off completely for about thirty seconds and then turn it back on. That clears background processes that can make an app stall or crash.

One note for iPhone owners: Bumble lists clearing cache and app data as an Android step. It is not an iPhone fix, so do not waste time hunting for it.

Check Travel Mode

If you use Travel Mode and the app drags only when it is on, you are probably looking at the known bug Bumble names, not a fault with your phone. There is no fix on your end beyond waiting for Bumble to resolve it. Turn Travel Mode off when you do not need it, and see whether the speed returns.

Do not let a lagging app cost you the match

A slow app does more damage to your dating life than it seems. A chat that stalls for a day because messages will not send is a chat that cools, and women match with other men in the meantime.

a dating coach has pointed out that apps are built to keep you inside them, and that making money matters to them more than getting you dates. Whatever you think of that, the practical lesson is to use the app for what it does well, which is the first few messages, and then move the conversation somewhere that works.

Once she has replied a few times and you have a rhythm, suggest a plan and ask for her number in the same message. Something like: "This app is dragging for me. Let's text, and I'll pick the bar for Thursday." That is easy to say yes to, and it takes the app out of the picture. A phone number you got from a woman who is enjoying the chat is worth far more than a match sitting in a laggy inbox.

If you cannot get her number yet, answer the moment the app works, keep the message short, and put a day and a place in it. The aim is a drink, and a good plan survives a slow screen.
