That has a practical effect near a border. If you live close to a state line, Search will happily show you women on the other side of it, because distance is the only thing it measures. The same can happen near a national border.

In both cases Search widens to fill the page, and the extra people it finds can be a long way off. A man in a big city with broad preferences may barely notice any of this. A man in a small town looking for something narrow will notice it all the time.

Since you cannot stop Search from expanding, do the filtering by eye. Skip anyone too far away to date realistically, and do not feel obliged to reach out to someone just because Search put her in front of you.
