OkCupid's own help center says the app is available in countries around the world, and that you can reach your account in any of them through the app, mobile web or desktop. It does not name the countries where OkCupid is most used, and it does not rank them. So the useful question for you is smaller: are there enough women near you on it to be worth your evenings?

What OkCupid says about where it works

The help center puts it in one sentence. OkCupid is available in countries around the world, and the same account works from any of them, on the app, on mobile web or on a computer.

That covers most of the places a man is likely to live, travel to or move to. If you are about to relocate, you do not need a new account to find out whether the app works there.

Available does not mean busy

An app can be offered in a country and still be quiet in your city. OkCupid does not publish a count of women by country, and the help center does not say where it is used most.

What decides your results is local. OkCupid's own pages say the vast majority of members are looking only for people near them, so what you see is mostly the women within reach of a drink. A country with a large membership can still give you a thin feed if your town is small.

So ignore country rankings you find on forums. A figure with no source tells you nothing about the women in your postcode.

Languages

OkCupid is available in English, German, French and Turkish, among other languages. On the app, the language follows your phone. If you want the app in a different language, you change the language on the phone itself.

On the website, the Language menu sits at the very bottom of the page. Pick one, then save.

Language matters more than it looks. A woman who reads her bio and her answers in one language is most likely to enjoy a conversation in the same one. If you are abroad, write in the language she uses, or at least in one she has shown she reads.

The questions change by location

OkCupid's matching runs on questions, and the help center says the questions differ depending on where you live. People in different places see different ones.

The practical result is that a man in one city is answering a slightly different set of questions from a man in another. Answer the ones you are shown honestly, and answer a fair number of them, because your Match % with a woman is built on the questions you both answered.

Prices follow the same rule

OkCupid shows prices in your local currency where it can. Where it cannot, it falls back to US dollars, because the company is based in the US.

A man paying in dollars should know that his bank may add conversion fees, and his government may add taxes. Look at the final total on the purchase screen before you confirm, and compare it with what you expected.

Check your own city in ten minutes

You do not need a statistic. You need an honest look at the local feed.

  • Set your location, age range and distance, then open Discover.
  • Scroll through a good number of women in your range. Count how many look like women you would want to meet.
  • Notice how complete their pages are. Recent photos and filled-in answers suggest someone who actually uses the app.

If the feed looks full, spend a few weeks on it. If it looks empty, widen your distance, and try a second app as well. a dating coach's advice is to run profiles on several sites and use whatever results you get on one to improve the others. No single app holds every woman, and the one that fails in your city may work well in the next.

Keep the habit small

A short daily session on the app does more than a long weekend one. Fifteen focused minutes in the evening is enough to like with care, answer the women who wrote, and suggest a drink to the ones who are warm.

Where in the world the app works matters less than whether you turn conversations into dates, and that part is the same in every country.
