Tantan is a dating app with matches and messages like the others. It has a separate international version, run by the Singapore company Hello Planet Pte. Ltd., that is distinct from the Chinese version. Men outside China are meant to use that international version, which says it lets people connect across Asia and beyond. Whether it works for you depends mostly on how many women near you are on it.
Two versions, one name
The Chinese version and the international version are not the same product. The international one has its own company, its own terms and its own community rules.
That matters for a simple reason. If you are outside China, the version meant for you is the international one. Use the version the app store offers in your region, not a workaround. Faking a location or hunting for a different version to get around a setting breaks the app's rules and can get your account removed.
What the international version says it is
The international Tantan says it lets people connect across Asia and beyond. Its terms apply to apps accessible in the user's region, which is a formal way of saying the rules follow the version you are using.
Its pitch is matching on shared passions and community, including Tribe rooms and in-person events, rather than endless swiping. In other words, it wants you to meet people through things you both care about.
Verification and rules
Tantan says it runs a verification process on the back end so that users meet real, verified people.
To sign up, you must be at least 18, and you register with a Tantan ID bound to a mobile number or an email address.
Its community guidelines ban fake profiles, stock photos, scams and money requests. They also ban misleading others about age, relationship status or intentions. Read that list as a promise about the room you are entering. It also applies to you. Use your own photos, say honestly what you want, and do not send money to anyone you have not met.
Can a man use it outside China?
Yes, through the international version, and the app's own description is that it connects people across Asia and beyond. What its pages do not tell you is how active it is in your city.
You find that out by trying. Download it, set up your page, and see whether the app shows you women near you. If it shows a handful of inactive pages, it is not worth your evenings. If it shows plenty of people who look active, it is worth a few weeks.
Do not assume a big user count elsewhere means a good pool where you live. A dating app is only as useful as the number of women who actually use it near you.
How to use it well
Use real, recent photos that show your face and ordinary life. Pick a Tribe room or an event that you would genuinely enjoy, because a shared interest gives you an easy first line.
Open with something specific about her page or her interest, in a sentence or two, and ask a question she can answer in a few words. If your first language is not hers, keep the wording simple and clear. Short sentences translate better and read friendlier.
Then suggest a plan. Coffee, a walk, a Tribe event. A conversation across cultures can feel exciting for weeks while it goes nowhere, so name a specific, low-pressure meeting once there is some warmth.
Be careful with money and verification
The guidelines ban scams and money requests, and you should follow the rule yourself. Never send money to someone you have not met, whatever the story. If a woman pushes you off the app early, or asks for photos or cash, stop and report her.
A verified account is a better sign than an unverified one, but it does not prove anyone is safe. A short video call before you meet is a reasonable check.
Is it worth it for you?
If you live somewhere with an active community, it can be a good source of conversations. If you do not, a bigger local app will give you more chances for the same effort.
Whichever you choose, your photos and your first lines decide what happens next. A coach who reads both can tell you what to change before you spend more evenings on any app.
