Badoo is used for dating. You sign up, add photos, and find people near you by voting on them one at a time in Encounters or browsing in Discover. When two people like each other it is a match, and your matches can chat with you straight away. What you want from it, a relationship, dates or something more casual, is set by what you put on your page and say to her rather than by the app.
What the company says it is
Bumble Inc.'s annual report to the SEC lists Badoo as a dating app, the older of the company's two dating apps, and one of the pioneers of free-to-use dating. It lists Bumble For Friends as a separate app. So if you are looking for a way to make friends, Badoo is not the product built for that.
The two ways to find people
Encounters shows one person at a time, with her photo, name, age and a few details. Tap the heart to like her or the cross to pass. If she has liked you too, you get a match notification and the chat opens in the Chats tab.
Discover lets you browse people near you instead of deciding on one at a time. You can open a page, look at more of her photos, and tap the heart to show interest. Chatting from Discover without a match needs verification and Credits, so it is the paid shortcut.
Both do the same job, which is to put you in touch with women near you.
What men use it for
Men use it to meet women near them and to arrange dates. The loop is the same on any dating app: find a woman you like, get a yes from her, start a chat, and suggest a plan.
a dating coach's advice is to move from a match to a phone number or a plan within a handful of messages, and not to chat for weeks. A woman on any app has other men writing to her, and the man who asks within a few messages usually gets the date. A man who uses Badoo as a place to collect chats, with no plan in any of them, has found a different use for it, and it is not the one that pays.
What it is not
It will not promise you results. Badoo does not publish a success rate for men, and we will not invent one. It is also not a private place to talk. Women there are real people who may also be on other apps, and some accounts are not real, so the usual care applies. Do not send money, and do not send photos you would not want shared.
What a good week on it looks like
Day one is setup. Add clear, recent photos with your face in the first one, add photo verification, and write a few short lines in your own voice. Badoo's own advice for better results is a complete page of exactly that.
After that, vote in short sessions. Answer every open conversation before you vote on anyone new. Keep your distance setting to somewhere you would really go for a drink on a weeknight. a dating coach favors half an hour a day over a weekend binge, and he sends his first line within about a minute of a match, about one specific thing on her page.
What you pay for
Free members can vote, match and chat. Premium adds things like seeing who liked you, priority for your messages and removal of the vote limit. Credits are a separate top-up, used for extras such as chatting before a match. We give no prices, because they change. Read the plan screen on the day you buy.
coach says paid features multiply the results you already have. Test the free version first and pay only for a feature that you can name a reason for.
Who it suits
Badoo suits a man who lives somewhere it is active, since apps are busier in some places than in others. Bumble Inc.'s filing says Badoo is a market leader in several countries in Europe and Latin America. It suits a man who will spend two honest seconds on each card and likes only the women he would be glad to hear from. It suits a man who is willing to ask for a date.
A simple way to decide
Use Badoo for two weeks in short daily sessions, with clear recent photos and verification. Count the women you liked, the matches, the conversations and the dates you set. If the dates are there, it has a use for you. If the pool is thin or nothing comes back, move your time to the app that works where you live.
