Tapping the X declines her. She is not told, and the two of you no longer cross paths on the app. There is one thing it does not do. happn says a person you hide can still find you on her Map for seven days, at the place you last crossed. If you do not want her to see you at all, happn suggests blocking her instead.
What the X does
The X is how you say no on happn. When a woman appears in your feed and she is not for you, tap it and she is declined.
From then on, the app stops putting the two of you together. You no longer cross paths with her on happn, so she stops turning up in your feed even if your routines keep overlapping.
It is the everyday tool. Most of the people you pass on happn get the X, and that is normal.
She is not told
happn says the person you hide does not find out. Tapping the X sends her nothing.
That makes it the polite way to pass. There is no awkward moment and no rejection she has to read. You simply stop appearing in each other's feeds.
What she can still see on the Map
Here is the detail most men do not know. For seven days after you hide her, she can still find you on her Map, at the place where the two of you last crossed.
So the X is not the same as disappearing. If she opens her Map during that week, you may still be there at that spot.
For most people that does not matter at all. It matters when you have a real reason not to be seen. She might be a coworker or a neighbor, or someone you went on one bad date with. In those cases, happn's own advice is to block her rather than hide her, because a block stops her seeing you at all.
When to block instead
Blocking is the heavier tool, and it is permanent. happn does not let you undo a block, so keep it for people who need it.
Use the X when the answer is simply no. Use a block when you want someone out of your view and yourself out of hers, completely. That covers someone who was rude, someone who makes you uneasy, or someone you know and would rather not be seen by.
If you are unsure, start with the X. It does the everyday job of getting her out of your feed, and it leaves the block for the cases that really call for one.
Use the X more than you think
Plenty of men almost never tap the X. They Like nearly everyone, hoping that more Likes will mean more Crushes.
It usually works the other way. A man who Likes everyone ends up in chats with women he was never going to take out. He writes weaker messages because he is spread thin, and his good conversations get less of his attention. a dating coach makes a related point from the other side: when he made his page more clearly himself, fewer women responded, but more of the ones who did were the women he wanted.
So be picky. Like the women you would actually want to see across a table, and give everyone else the X without a second thought. Your chats get smaller, your attention goes further, and your dates get better.
Remember she has an X too
Every woman who sees you on happn has the same button, and she will never tell you she used it either. You will not know who passed on you, or why.
That means you have to judge your own page by what does happen. If you are crossing paths with plenty of people and very few Crushes come back, the X is being tapped on you more than you would like. The fix is usually on your page. Put a clear, recent photo of your face first. Show a couple of photos of a life she would enjoy being part of. Write a line or two that sounds like you talking, not a list of adjectives. Fill in the questions happn asks, so you are not filtered out by women who search for those details.
Small changes there move more women from the X to the heart than any amount of extra Likes will.
