Hinge uses your answer. We Met asks whether your date is the type of person you would like to see again, and if you say no, Hinge says it considers that when recommending new people to you. So an honest no shapes who you see the next time you are swiping, and Hinge says what you share through We Met stays private.

What We Met asks

We Met is Hinge's check-in about dates that came out of the app. It asks whether you went on the date, and then whether she is the type of person you would like to see again.

That second question is a simple yes or no about the person. It is not a review of the evening. You are not grading her looks, her manners or the restaurant she picked.

What Hinge does with a no

Hinge says that when you indicate you do not want a second date, it considers that when recommending new people to you. That is the whole of it, in Hinge's own description. Your answer becomes one more piece of information about who you are likely to click with.

Think of it as a correction. Your likes tell Hinge who catches your eye on a screen. A no after a real date tells it something the screen could not: that a woman who looked right on paper was not right in person.

Hinge does not say how much weight one answer carries. So do not expect a single no to change what you see overnight. Just answer every time it asks.

Does she find out?

Hinge says anything you share through We Met is private and is never passed to your matches. She will not get a notice saying you answered no, and your answer is not shown to her.

What she can work out is the obvious part. If you never ask her out again, she will draw her own conclusions, the same way she would on any other app.

The privacy works both ways. You will never see what she answered about you either. So do not read meaning into a quiet chat beyond what she actually says to you.

Why an honest no helps you

Some men answer yes out of politeness, as if the app might tell on them. It will not, and a polite yes only hurts the man who gives it.

A polite yes tells Hinge to keep showing you women like the one you did not want to see again. An honest no steers it the other way. The whole value of the check-in is that it rests on what happened in real life, so give it real answers.

Be just as honest when the answer is yes. If you want to see her again, say so, and then go ahead and ask her.

Handling the chat afterward

Your We Met answer does nothing to the chat itself. If you are not going to see her again, deal with that directly.

If she writes to you after the date and you are not interested, a short, kind reply beats silence. "I had a good time meeting you, but I don't think we're a match. Good luck out there." It takes ten seconds and leaves nobody guessing.

If you both drifted off without saying anything, you can leave it there or unmatch. What you should not do is keep chatting as though a second date might happen when you already know it will not.

What to take from a date that went nowhere

A no is useful information for you as well as for Hinge. Ask yourself what did not work.

Was it something you could have spotted on her page, like a lifestyle that was never going to fit yours? Then read women's answers more closely before you like them, and ask a question or two in the chat before you commit to an evening.

Or was it the date itself, like a loud bar where you could not hear each other, or a dinner that dragged on for three hours? Then change the plan, not the women. Short, easy first meetings in places where you can actually talk make it much easier to tell whether you want a second one.

Either way, answer We Met honestly, close the chat kindly, and let the next recommendation be a little better than the last.
