What Are Hidden Likes on Hinge?

Hidden Likes is where Hinge puts a like whose comment was caught by Comment Filter. That like shows up only in the Hidden Likes category, with the note Comment Hidden, and you get no notification for it. You can open it to read the full comment and then match, skip or report, or delete it without ever reading it.

Comment Filter screens the comments that come attached to incoming likes. Hinge describes two ways it works, and they can run together.

The first is Auto Filter. When it is on, Hinge filters out incoming comments that contain disrespectful language on its own. Hinge says Auto Filter is turned on by default once your app is on a version that has it, and that some harmful comments you received before that may be hidden after the fact.

The second is your own list. You can add specific words, phrases or emoji you never want to see in a comment. If an incoming comment contains one of them, it is filtered the same way.

Either way, the result is identical. The like stays out of your main list, lands in Hidden Likes marked Comment Hidden, and arrives without a notification.

Open it and you see the full comment. From there you can match, skip or report, the same choices you have with any other like.

You can also clear them out unread. Hinge lets you delete hidden likes without ever reading them by tapping Delete at the bottom of the screen. If the filter caught something ugly, you never have to see it.

Before you delete a batch unread, it is worth one quick look. A filter works on what a comment says, not on what the sender meant, so a clumsy joke can trip it too. A woman whose teasing line happened to use a blunt word could be sitting in there.

The controls live under Settings, then Safety, then Comment Filter. From there you can switch Auto Filter on or off, and add words under the section for blocking specific words. You can add to that list, change it or remove it at any time.

Hinge says both parts are optional. Leaving Auto Filter on is a sensible default, since you can always open Hidden Likes and check what it caught.

Here is the part men tend to overlook. Every woman on Hinge has the same tool, and it works on the comments you send her.

If a comment you send trips her filter, your like goes into her Hidden Likes instead of her main list. Hinge says there is no notification shown for that like. It also says the sender is not informed that the comment was blocked. From your side, it simply looks like a like that was never answered.

Her list of blocked words is one she customizes herself, and Hinge does not inform the sender when a comment is blocked. So the safe approach is to write comments that no filter would touch.

Do not respond by dropping comments altogether. Hinge's own pages say adding a comment to your like makes it more likely to get a response. The answer is to comment cleanly, not to stop commenting.

That does not mean writing bland ones. It means leaving out anything a stranger could read as crude or insulting.

Keep sexual remarks, comments about her body and swear words out of a first comment entirely. They are the words most likely to be on someone's list, and they rarely help even when they get through.

Teasing is still fine, and it is often the best comment you can send. a dating coach's own examples of teasing lines are clean ones, such as "You seem like trouble" or "We wouldn't get along." In his words, lines like these create tension while positioning you as selective, and none of them contains a word a filter would object to.

A filter is one possible reason, and you cannot confirm it. A like can also go unanswered for ordinary reasons: she has not opened the app, she is busy with other chats, or she is simply not interested. What you can do is read back your last ten comments as a stranger would.

If any of them lean on a crude word or a joke about her looks, rewrite them. If they are clean and still get nothing, the problem is more likely what she sees before she reaches the comment: your first picture and your answers.

When a comment does land, answer her reply quickly and move toward a plan. A few good exchanges are enough to suggest a place and an evening.
