Both apps make you apply before you can use them, but they review you differently and charge you differently. Raya puts your application through a membership committee and an algorithm, works only on iPhone, and requires a paid membership once you are accepted. The League has its own members peer review applications, works on iPhone and Android, and keeps its daily Batches, matching and messaging free, so paying there is optional.

On Raya, the decision comes from two places. A membership committee reviews what you send, and an algorithm plays a part too. Raya also says that applications with referrals are more likely to be accepted.

On The League, the people deciding are the app's own members. Applications are peer reviewed by people who are already inside.

Both setups mean the same thing for you in practice. Somebody is looking at your life before they let you in. Once you are through, the women you see were looked at the same way.

The two apps point you toward different kinds of proof.

Raya asks for your Instagram handle. That is a fair hint that it wants to see your life: who is in it and what you do with your weekends. An account you last posted on years ago, or one full of memes, says very little about you.

On The League, use whichever verification route you genuinely have. Then submit it and get on with your week. Opening the app ten times a day will not make anyone review you faster.

The two names sound alike, but they are not the same product.

The League lets members on its paid Unlimited tier skip its waitlist. That one is about getting in. It matters once, at the start, and does nothing after that.

Raya sells something called Skip the Wait, and the name misleads people. Mashable's reporting on the app describes it as getting members more suggestions sooner. Members buy it, so it only matters once you are already inside. It is not a way around the application.

So if you are waiting on Raya, there is nothing on this list to buy. If you are waiting on The League and speed matters more to you than the fee, the Unlimited tier is the paid option the app itself offers.

This is the difference that matters most over a month of using either app.

Raya requires a paid membership once you are accepted. There is no free way to use it properly, so you pay before you know whether it works for you.

The League says a subscription is optional, because the daily Batches, matching and messaging are all free. You can find out whether the app produces dates for you before you spend anything.

That makes The League the cheaper experiment. On Raya, the membership is the price of finding out. On The League, you can run the free version for a few weeks, count what came of it, and only then decide whether a paid tier is worth it.

Raya only runs on iPhone. The League is on the App Store and Google Play. If you carry an Android phone, the choice is made for you.

Past that, Raya fits a man with an iPhone and an Instagram that honestly shows a full life, who does not mind paying to be in a small, reviewed crowd. The League fits a man whose work or schooling he can verify, who wants to try an app for free before paying, and who likes getting a daily Batch of women rather than an endless list.
