No. Raya is free to download and free to apply to, but it is not free to use. Once you are accepted, Raya asks you to pay for a membership, and its App Store listing says you only get full functionality while that membership is active. Unlike most dating apps, there is no free version to fall back on, and none of Raya's own pages describe a free tier.
What costs nothing
Two things are free.
The download is free. The App Store lists Raya as free, with in-app purchases.
The application is free. Raya's web application takes your details without any payment step, so applying and waiting cost you nothing but time.
That is where the free part ends.
What you pay once you are in
Raya's terms say accepted users are offered membership for a fee and have to choose a subscription option. Its About page says every member who is admitted is asked to pay membership fees.
The App Store listing describes the options: a 1, 6 or 12 month membership that renews automatically. There are two levels, a standard Membership and a pricier Raya+ Membership. Raya also sells extras on their own, called Skip the Wait, Direct Requests and Extra Likes.
Your phone's app store shows the price of each one. Check it there before you choose, and put the renewal date in your calendar, because every plan renews automatically.
Do you need the extras
The three extras sit on top of the membership, and none of them is required to use Raya.
Skip the Wait gets you more member suggestions straight away, instead of after a few hours. A Direct Request lets you message a member you have not matched with. Extra Likes top up the likes you can send in a day.
Each one solves a specific problem, and most weeks you will not have that problem. Buy one only when you can name the situation it fixes. That might be a free evening with no suggestions left, one woman you genuinely want to reach, or a day your likes ran out with good women still waiting. Otherwise the membership is the whole cost.
Is it free for women
This is a common question, and the honest answer is that Raya's pages give no sign of it.
None of Raya's own pages describe a free membership tier or a different price for women. The terms and the About page talk about accepted users and admitted members paying, with no split by gender. So go in assuming the women you see on Raya paid to be there too.
That is worth a moment's thought. A woman paying for a membership has chosen to spend money to be on the app. She is not there by accident.
What an active membership means for you
The listing ties full functionality to an active subscription. The middle of three promising conversations is the worst moment to find out which parts of the app stop working without one.
So if you have women you are talking to, keep the membership running until those conversations have become dates or clearly gone nowhere. Letting it lapse to save a month can cost you the one date that month would have produced.
Deciding whether to pay
Paying for an app you already got into feels like a formality. It is a real decision, and it is worth making on purpose.
a dating coach argues that a flat refusal to ever pay for an app is its own mistake, and that it quietly costs men dates. If the women you want to meet are on an app and your time is worth something, a fee can be money well spent. He is equally clear that a fee buys you access and nothing more. It does not make your pictures better or your first line more interesting.
So start with the shortest option, the 1 month membership. Use it hard. At the end of the month, count the dates it produced, not the matches, and decide on the next month from that.
Making every match and message count
Because you are paying from day one, a wasted match costs you more on Raya than on a free app.
Answer the same day. A woman who liked you today may have liked other men today too, and the man who replies first often gets the conversation.
Write a first message about her, not a greeting that fits anyone. Notice one detail on her page and respond to it. Keep it short, with a question that takes her seconds to reply to.
Then ask to meet once she is clearly engaged. Swap numbers, suggest a plan, and get it on the calendar. A membership that turns into two good dates a month is worth paying for. A membership that turns into a long list of stalled conversations is not, and no pricier plan fixes that.
