No. Tinder Plus is a subscription, sold alongside Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum. Tinder's cancellation page treats cancelling as the way to avoid future charges, which is how a recurring subscription works and not how a one-time purchase works. If you never cancel, you should expect to keep being billed.

How Plus is sold

You start a Plus subscription from your own icon in the app, then Settings. Tinder's help pages mention plans of six months and twelve months, and weekly subscriptions also exist.

The plan length matters when you upgrade. Tinder says that when you move up, you can change the type but not the duration. A six-month Plus becomes a six-month Gold, for example, not a one-month Gold.

Tinder also says weekly subscriptions do not include the monthly Boost. If a Boost is part of why you are paying, read what your specific plan includes before you buy.

What you get for it

Tinder Plus includes unlimited daily Likes and unlimited Rewinds. It also has Passport Mode, a view without ads and the ability to go incognito.

Gold adds weekly Super Likes, one Boost a month and the ability to see who has already Liked you. Platinum adds Prioritized Likes on top of that.

Plus is the entry paid tier. Its main effect for a man is that the daily Like limit stops mattering.

Where to cancel depends on how you paid

This is where men get caught. Cancelling in the wrong place does nothing, and the charge arrives anyway.

Tinder's help center gives three routes:

  • If you paid in the iPhone app, you cancel through Apple.
  • If you paid in the Android app, you cancel through Google Play.
  • If you paid on Tinder.com, or by direct card or PayPal, you cancel through Manage Payment Account.

Deleting the Tinder app is not one of the cancellation routes Tinder lists. Cancel in the place that bills you, then check that the renewal is switched off there.

What happens if you want your money back

Tinder says most in-app purchases are nonrefundable, with some exceptions for purchases made in the last fourteen days. A man who forgets and gets charged for a six-month plan has little room to recover it.

So set a reminder before renewal. Put it in your calendar on the day you subscribe, a few days before the plan ends, with one question attached: did this earn its place?

How to know if it earns its place

A subscription is worth keeping only if it changes your results. The way to find out costs nothing but a notebook.

For two weeks before you pay, write down three numbers: how many women match with you, how many answer your first message and how many agree to meet. Then record the same three numbers while on Plus.

If the numbers go up, renew. If they stay the same, cancel and spend the money on something that changes them, such as better photos.

a dating coach says paying for a dating app is probably worth it in most cases as long as the price is not extreme, and he adds that you should test and adjust constantly. He also thinks a paid feature multiplies what is already there. With clear photos and a first message that sounds like a person, Plus speeds things up. With neither, you get the same quiet inbox with a charge attached.

The thing Plus cannot do

Unlimited Likes mean you can swipe more. They do not mean she replies more.

A man who likes everyone and writes "hey" to the ones who match is working hard to produce very little. A man who likes selectively and sends a specific first line, one that refers to a detail in her photos, gets a better return from fewer Likes.

So if you buy Plus, do not spend the extra swipes on volume. Spend them on being choosy, and put the saved effort into the first message and the plan to meet. Suggest a day and a place within a few messages of a good exchange.

Before you subscribe

Pick the plan length knowing that an upgrade later keeps the same length. Know where you will cancel, based on how you pay. And decide today what result would make you renew.

If you are not sure, start with the shortest plan you are offered. A short plan is a cheap way to find out, and you can always take a longer one after you have seen the numbers.
