To get a girl's number at a bus stop, approach a woman as soon as you arrive, start with something about the wait, and ask for her number before her bus pulls up. A bus stop gives you two to ten minutes, so you cannot build things slowly. You show you like her, get her to agree with something small and ask, all inside the time the schedule gives you.

Open the moment you get there

The worst bus stop approach is the one you plan for five minutes while standing two meters away. By the time you speak, she has noticed you looking, and your first line sounds rehearsed. a dating coach makes this point about crowded transit. A man who waits and waits and then turns to tell a woman she is cute has given the game away: "It looks like you've been thinking about it for the entire time."

So say something as you arrive. Walk up, stand at a normal distance and speak within a few seconds. To her, you are just a guy who got to the bus stop and started talking.

Start with the wait

Other people are usually standing around, and a loud, direct line in front of strangers can embarrass her. a dating coach's advice for that setting is to open in a more conversational way first, then bring in the flirting once you are already talking.

So complain that the bus is late. Ask if the 14 still runs on Sundays. Say something about the rain. After she answers, introduce yourself and ask her an easy question. Then, a minute in, let her know why you are really talking: "I'm glad the bus is late. You're more fun than my podcast."

Check the schedule

Look at the arrival board or your app when you get there. If her bus comes in three minutes, you need to move quickly. If it is twelve minutes out, you have time for a real conversation.

You can also just ask, "Which one are you waiting for?" It is a normal question at a bus stop, and her answer tells you your deadline.

Squeeze the close

In a long conversation, a number comes naturally once she likes you. At a bus stop you rarely have that time. a dating coach's answer is to fit those steps into a few lines: say something you like about her, get her to say yes to something small, then ask.

His example is short. Ask whether she lives in the area, and when she says yes, tell her that in that case you two could hang out, and ask for her number. Other easy yeses work the same way. "You seem adventurous. Are you?" "Do you actually like this neighborhood?" Each one gives the number a reason, which makes it far more likely she will answer your text later.

When her bus arrives

If her bus pulls in mid-conversation, do not let it end the talk without asking. a dating coach's simple version is to say you wish you had more time and ask: "I wish we could talk more. What's your number? We'll follow this up when we have more time."

Hand her your phone and let her type while the doors open. Say goodbye, and text her later that day so she remembers who you are. Mention the late bus or something she told you, so the first text feels like it came from the same person she met.

On the bus itself

If you are taking the same bus, keep talking on board. If it is not your bus, you can still get on and treat it as a short detour, but only when the conversation is clearly good.

One of a dating coach's mentorship students did exactly that, then hopped off at the first stop with a number and later felt he had cut it short. My view was to find out where she is going and decide on purpose. Either ask for the number and part ways, or ride along and see whether there is a spot near her stop for a quick drink.

On a crowded bus, keep your voice down. Other passengers are close, and loud flirting in front of them is uncomfortable for her.

Practicing with a coach
