Ask for her number while you are still enjoying talking to her, not at the end of the night when she is putting her coat on. Give her a reason to want to see you again, ask in one plain sentence, and hand her your phone with a new contact open. Then text her the next day with something from your chat. At a house party that is all it takes, because everyone there expects to meet someone new.

Pick the moment, not the end of the night

Most men wait too long. They talk to her for an hour, run out of things to say, and then try to ask while she is leaving with her friends. By then the good feeling has faded, and her friends are pulling her toward an Uber.

The right moment is a high point. She just laughed at something you said, or you found out you both want to try the same restaurant, or she told you about something she is doing next weekend. Ask then, while the energy is still there.

Do not ask in your first two minutes either. A number from a woman who barely knows your name is a number that goes nowhere. Talk long enough to share a laugh and learn one or two real things about her.

Give her a reason to want it

A number is easier to give when there is a plan attached. Listen for a hook during your chat:

  • She mentions a bar she has been meaning to try.
  • You both love the same band and it is playing next month.
  • She asks where you got your jacket, and you know a shop she would like.

Now the ask is not "can I have your number." It is "we should go to that bar, give me your number." She is agreeing to something fun, not to a stranger.

The words to use

Keep it short and confident. Make it a statement more than a question:

  • "I want to keep talking to you. Put your number in."
  • "We are going to that taco place. What is your number?"
  • "I have to go rescue my friend, but I want to see you again."

Say it with a smile and hold eye contact. You do not need a speech, and you do not need to apologize for asking.

Hand her your phone

Open a new contact screen and hand her your phone. Typing it in herself is easier than reciting digits over loud music. It also means she chose to give it, which makes her more likely to answer later.

When she hands it back, call or text her right there with your name. Now she has your number too, and you know it is real.

If her friends are pulling her away

At parties women move in groups, and friends often decide when it is time to go. If you sense a friend getting restless, do not drag things out. Ask now, quickly, and let her go with them.

A man who lets her leave with her friends, smiling, looks secure. A man who follows the group to the door looks the opposite.

If she offers her Instagram instead

Some women prefer to give Instagram first. That is fine. Take it, follow her, and send a short note the next day the same way you would a text. Many good dates start that way.

If she says no

She might have a boyfriend, or she might just not feel it. Either way, take it lightly. "No problem, it was fun talking to you" is all you need to say. Then go enjoy the party. People notice how you handle a no, and her friends talk.

The text after the party

Text the next day, not at two in the morning. Remind her who you are and bring back a detail:

  • "Hey, it is Chris from Jen's party. I still think your taco opinion is wrong."
  • "Chris here. Are we doing that bar on Thursday?"

Suggest a specific day. If she replies warmly, lock in the plan. If she goes silent, one light follow-up a few days later is fine, then let it go.

Practicing the ask in the field

The ask itself is a small moment that a lot of men lose to hesitation. It gets easier only by doing it, many times, with someone telling you what to fix.

The Cold Approach Bootcamp is in person and fully in the field, with live coaching on every approach and feedback after every set, including how and when to get her number. It runs in Miami and New York only. Group is three consecutive days with three students per coach. Private is 1-on-1 for one, two or three days. A total beginner is welcome, and approach anxiety is the specialty.
