Bumble's help center does not use the word deactivate for anything. It describes two options. Snooze Mode hides you from other members and lets you take a break without deleting your information. Delete account removes it. If you want to step away and keep everything, use Snooze Mode. If you want out, use Delete.
Snooze Mode, step by step
Open your profile and tap the Settings icon. Select Snooze Mode, then choose how long: 24 hours, 72 hours, a week or indefinitely.
While you are snoozed you can keep chatting with matches you already have. You can also set an Away Status, such as "I'm traveling" or "I'm on a digital detox", so a woman who sees it knows why you are quiet. You can turn Snooze Mode off at any time.
What Snooze Mode does not do
It does not pause a subscription. If you pay for Boost, Premium or Premium+, the charges continue while you are snoozed.
It also does not protect matches you have not spoken to. Bumble says any match without an active chat will expire while you are snoozed. A week away can empty your queue of women you never wrote to.
How long to snooze for
Pick the shortest option that fits. A day or three suits a busy stretch, and a week suits a trip. Indefinitely is for the stretch where you do not know when you will be back.
Remember that matches without an active chat expire while you are snoozed. The longer you stay away, the more of them you lose, so a long snooze is a real cost and not only a pause.
Delete account, step by step
To delete instead, tap the profile icon and then the gear icon. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account. Choose a reason and confirm.
That is the whole route. There is no separate deactivate switch in between, and no one-tap pause. If you want your account gone, this is how.
What happens after you delete
Bumble says a deleted account can be restored by contacting Bumble Support, but only for a limited window after you delete it. After that window passes, Bumble begins deleting your personal information, and the account cannot be brought back.
Treat the window as a safety net and not a plan. If you are unsure, snooze first.
Cancel your subscription first
Two points here catch men out. Deleting the app does not delete your account. Being inactive does not delete it either, so your page stays up for as long as the account exists.
Subscriptions may not cancel on their own. Bumble says to cancel them first, before you delete. Otherwise you can finish with a closed account and a charge that keeps coming.
Writing a useful Away Status
Away Status is a short line that tells a woman why you have gone quiet. Bumble's own examples are "I'm traveling" and "I'm on a digital detox".
Pick the one that is true. A man who is travelling can say so, and a man who is taking a break from the apps can say that. A true line reads as calm, and a woman you have been talking to will understand a gap better than she will understand silence.
Keep your active chats warm before you start. Bumble says you can keep chatting with matches you already have while snoozed, so a woman who matters to you does not have to wait until you return.
Which one to pick
Pick Snooze Mode if you are tired, travelling, busy, or just need a break from the apps. It keeps your page, your photos and your chats, and you can come back whenever you like.
Pick Delete if you are finished, or if you are certain you want a clean break. Know what you are giving up first. a dating coach says a profile is something you build up over time, with each better photo and each better line adding to it. Deleting throws away that work.
If a break is what you need
Burnout is usually a signal that the way you are using the apps is not working. Scrolling for an hour a day with no dates to show for it wears anyone out.
A break is fine. Use it to fix the page, and when you return, spend less time and write to fewer women, with better first lines. If you would rather not run the apps at all, that is a different decision from deleting one account.
