Not as a separate switch that Facebook describes. What Meta documents for Dating is deleting your Dating profile, which you can do at any time and which leaves your Facebook account alone. Deactivating your whole Facebook account hides your main page. Meta's help page on that does not mention Dating, so do not count on it to pause anything.

What Meta does say about leaving

Meta describes Facebook Dating as a separate, opt-in experience, and says you can delete your Dating profile at any time. That is the exit it documents.

To do it in the Facebook app, tap Dating, tap settings in the top right, tap General, scroll down to Delete Profile and tap Delete.

Your Dating activity stays inside Dating. Meta says it is not shared to your Facebook profile or your News Feed, so your friends see nothing change when you leave.

What deleting costs you

Deleting your Dating profile removes your Dating answers, your likes, your matches and your conversations. It does not delete your Facebook account.

You also cannot make a new Dating profile for 7 days afterward. So a delete made in a bad mood on Tuesday means you are locked out until the following week, with nothing carried over.

For a man who only wanted a break, that is a poor trade. He loses the photos he picked, the answers he wrote, and every woman he was talking to, and he gets nothing back for it.

Deactivating the whole Facebook account

Meta's help pages say that deactivating your Facebook account for a while hides your profile. You can come back at any time by logging in again.

The same page does not mention Dating. That is the important gap. Nobody outside Meta can tell you from those pages what a deactivation does to a Dating profile, and a guess is a bad thing to build your evenings on.

There is also a plain cost to the idea. Deactivating hides your whole Facebook profile, not only the Dating part, and your friends and family will notice that. For most men that is a much bigger step than a few weeks without Dating.

If you only want a break

Facebook does not describe a pause switch, so the practical break is the simple one. Stop opening the app. Do not like anyone, and do not start conversations you do not plan to finish.

The reason is manners as much as strategy. A woman you started talking to and then dropped will notice, and she has no way to know you took a week off. If you are about to be unavailable, tell the women you are mid-conversation with. One line is enough.

If you want a clean pause, use the break for something useful. Your photos and your answers are the first thing she reads, and a week away from the app is a good time to fix them. Ask a friend to take three pictures in daylight, wearing clothes you actually wear. Rewrite one answer so it holds a single specific detail about your week instead of a list of hobbies.

Before you delete, get the numbers

If you decide to delete, deal with your conversations first. Every chat lives only in Dating, and deleting removes it. There is no copy in Messenger.

a dating coach's habit on any dating app is to get a number within a few messages, so no single app holds the only line to her. If you are mid-chat with someone you want to see, send one line: "I'm leaving this app, but I'd still like that coffee. Can I get your number?" A woman who was enjoying herself will often answer.

Do this before you tap Delete, not after. Once the profile is gone, so is your way to reach her.

Should you come back at all?

Often the profile is not the problem. If your replies slowed down, swap one photo or rewrite one answer, then watch for a few days. One change at a time shows you what helped. A wipe shows you nothing.

If you have changed those things and still get little, treat Dating as one test among several. Count your likes, your conversations, your numbers and your dates over two weeks. If the count is poor, a different dating app with more women near you is a better use of your time than a longer break.

The short version

Facebook describes how to delete a Dating profile, not how to deactivate one. Deleting removes your answers, likes, matches and conversations and locks you out of a new profile for 7 days. Deactivating your whole Facebook account is not described as affecting Dating. If you want a break, stop opening the app, tell the women you are talking to, and spend the time improving your photos.
