To block someone on Luxy, tap the flag icon at the top right of their page or your chat with them and choose Add to Blocklist. To report them as well, choose Report and Block instead, which files the report first and then blocks. Two facts matter before you tap anything. A block on Luxy is permanent and cannot be reversed. A report is confidential, so the person is never told who reported them. Both facts are worth knowing before you touch that flag in a bad mood.
Blocking someone
Open the person's profile or your chat with them. Look for the flag icon in the top right corner. Tap it and choose Add to Blocklist.
That is the whole process, which is exactly why it deserves a pause before the tap. If you are unsure, leave the chat alone for a day. You can always block tomorrow. You can never unblock.
Reporting someone
From the same flag icon, choose Report and Block. This reports the person and blocks them in one go.
Luxy keeps reports confidential, so the person you report is not told it was you. If you hesitate because you worry about how they will react when they find out, they will not find out from Luxy.
A block cannot be undone
This is the part men miss. Luxy says blocking is permanent and cannot be reversed.
On some apps a block is a door you can open again later. On Luxy it is a wall. If you block a woman because she irritated you, and wish you had not by the next morning, there is nothing in the app to fix it.
So block when you are sure. A good test is whether you would still want that person gone a week from now, when whatever annoyed you has faded. If the answer is yes, block. If the answer is maybe, wait.
If you might ever need a record of what someone sent you, take screenshots before you block. The block cannot be reversed, so you cannot count on undoing it later to go back and look.
When to report instead of only blocking
Report what you would want Luxy to know about. Someone asking you for money. Someone threatening you, or pressuring you after you have said no. Someone whose photos are clearly of somebody else. An account that seems built to push you somewhere off the app.
Blocking alone protects you. Reporting also gives Luxy a chance to protect the next man, or the next woman, from the same account. Because the report is confidential, you give up nothing by making it. And since Report and Block does both at once, you never have to choose between protecting yourself and flagging the account.
Most trouble on the dating apps needs neither
Most of what goes wrong on a dating app is not a safety problem. It is an awkward conversation, a slow one, or one that went flat.
A woman who needs a day to reply has done nothing that calls for a block. Neither has one who gave you a short answer, or one who stopped writing back. Blocking her over it does nothing for you except close off a conversation that might have come back on its own.
There is also a quieter cost. A man who blocks every time he feels slighted is letting a stranger's mood set the terms of his evening. Composure on an app looks the same as composure at a bar. You let the dull conversation go, you do not make a scene of it, and you put your attention on the next woman who is actually enjoying talking to you.
When blocking is really for you
There is one case where blocking is about you rather than her. dating advice makes the point about exes. If you know you are done with someone and you keep reopening the conversation late at night, put a barrier in your own way so the decision sticks.
Maybe that is what is happening with a woman on Luxy. You keep sending one more message to someone who has made her lack of interest clear. Then the block is a kindness to both of you. Just make the choice sober, because on Luxy it is the last choice you get.
Keep your inbox worth opening
The less time you spend managing awkward chats, the more you can spend on the good ones.
Answer the women who answer you, and do it promptly. Write short messages that are about her. When the conversation is easy and she is asking you things too, suggest a drink. Men who do that find they rarely need the flag icon at all, because they are not stuck in long, sour conversations with people who were never interested.
