Joining the dating app costs nothing. After that you can pay for three things: Badoo Premium, Badoo Extra and Credits. Badoo says its pricing details are always shown on the payment page, and prices change, so a figure from an old article or a forum is a poor guide. Open the page itself to see what you would be charged.
What is free and what is paid
Signing up, adding photos and voting on people in Encounters do not cost anything. The paid layer sits on top. It covers things like seeing who likes you, moving your messages to the front, and a few conveniences such as removing ads.
That split matters because the price you pay depends entirely on which of the three you pick. A man who never opens the payment page spends nothing. A man who buys small things now and then can spend more over a month than a man on a single plan, without ever noticing.
Premium: the full subscription
Premium is the top paid tier. Badoo sells it as a subscription for 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 180 days, or as a Lifetime option. The longer lengths are tempting because you commit once and stop thinking about it. The risk is paying for months of something you stop using in the first week.
Premium includes seeing who likes you and priority for your sent messages. It also covers a daily crush, ad removal, undo for an accidental left swipe, unlimited filters and private browsing. Badoo's page for what Premium includes is the place to confirm the exact list before you buy.
Extra: the cheaper tier
Extra can be taken for 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or 180 days, and Badoo lists no Lifetime option for it. It covers a daily crush, ad removal, undo for left swipes and some bonus credits.
It leaves out the feature most men want, which is seeing who likes you. If that is why you are paying, Extra will not give it to you. Know which problem you are trying to solve before you pick the tier.
Credits: pay as you go
Credits are a top-up system, not a monthly subscription. You buy a balance and spend it on one thing at a time. Badoo says purchased Credits expire 6 months after purchase, unless they were bought through the Apple App Store.
Because Credits are bought in small pieces, they are the easiest way to spend more than you meant to. Decide how much you will spend before you start, and treat the amount as a budget for the whole trial, not for the day.
Where you subscribe, and the renewal
You subscribe from your Profile tab, under Plans, by choosing Get Extra or Get Premium. Badoo says subscriptions renew automatically unless they are cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
That sentence is where most surprise charges come from. When you start a plan, put the renewal date in your calendar with a reminder two days ahead. Decide on the reminder date whether the plan has earned another period.
Set a ceiling before you open the payment page
Decide the most you are willing to spend on Badoo over the next month before you see a single price. Write it down. A price shown to a man who has not set a limit tends to feel reasonable, because it is only one purchase, and the second and third purchases feel the same.
Then check each purchase against the ceiling. If Credits and a subscription together would pass it, pick the one that serves your goal and skip the other. A man with a ceiling spends on purpose. A man without one spends on impulse and calls it research.
What it is worth paying
a dating coach is not shy about paying for dating apps, but he treats each purchase as a test. His advice is to start with something cheap, count what it brings you, and keep it only if the results move. He also points out that a little money often buys back a lot of time, which matters to a man with a job.
So set a rule before you pay. Count your numbers for a week without paying: women you liked, matches, conversations, plans. Then buy the shortest plan you can, and count again. If matches and plans rise by enough to justify the charge, keep it. If they do not, cancel and spend the effort on your photos and your first message instead.
A good result is not that Premium is cheap. It is that the price is small next to what it brought you, such as an extra date a week.
