Every day around noon, Coffee Meets Bagel sends you a personalized batch of potential matches, called Bagels, in the Suggested section. They are picked from your preferences, your past likes and passes, and how likely each person is to like you back. Liking someone in Suggested is free, and if she already liked you, your like makes an instant match. A separate Discover tab lets you browse more people nearby who may not fully fit your preferences.
The daily batch in Suggested
Suggested is the heart of the app. Instead of an endless stack of faces, you get a set of people delivered once a day and chosen for you.
Three things decide who shows up. The preferences you set, the way you have liked and passed on people before, and how likely each person is to like you back. That last one is worth noticing. The app is not only trying to show you women you will like. It is also trying to show you women who are likely to like you.
For each Bagel, you like or you pass. Liking in Suggested costs nothing.
How a match happens
A match takes two people. If she has already liked you, your like completes it on the spot and the two of you are matched. If she has not, nothing happens until she likes you too.
Any of the people in your batch may already have liked you. You have no way of telling which ones, so a lazy pass could be the only thing standing between you and a match that was already half made.
This is why the batch rewards attention. The app has already weighed your chances with each person in it, so a Bagel is a better bet than a random face in a stack. Treat each one as a real decision rather than a reflex. Look at her photos, read what she wrote, and ask yourself whether you would actually enjoy an hour across a table from her.
Discover for when you want more
Discover is the second way to find people. It lets you browse more people nearby, including some who may not fully fit the preferences you set.
Think of Suggested as the shortlist and Discover as the wider search. Suggested is where the odds are built in. Discover is where you go after you have worked through your batch and want to see who else is around. A like in Discover is a longer shot, so it pays to be choosier there and to have a reason for each one.
Discover also has its own Search, where you can narrow things down by age, distance, recent activity and a few other details. Setting distance and recent activity before you start liking keeps your effort on women who are nearby and actually using the app.
What the paid extras do and do not change
Coffee Meets Bagel is free to use. Liking, passing and chatting with the people you are suggested all work without paying. On top of that, the app sells extras: Beans, its in-app currency, and paid subscriptions.
Boosts are one of those extras. You can buy them one at a time with Beans, and the Premium and Platinum subscriptions include some each month. Whatever a paid extra does for your reach, it cannot change what a woman thinks once she is actually looking at you. If your lead photo is dark and your answers are generic, spending money only puts that in front of more people.
Make your first messages count
A batch that arrives once a day is a different rhythm from an endless stack. You will usually have a handful of conversations going rather than dozens, so each one matters more.
Open with something specific to her. A detail from one of her photos or one of her answers gives her an easy reply and shows you actually looked. "Hey, how's your week" gives her nothing, and in a chat that started with two deliberate likes it throws away the goodwill you both brought.
Keep the back-and-forth short and friendly, then suggest a drink while the conversation is still warm. The point of the app is a date, not a pen pal. A few good exchanges and a clear invitation will get you further than a week of chatting about nothing.
Build a daily habit around noon
The batch arrives around noon, so the simplest system is to check in once a day after it lands. Go through your Suggested people, like the ones you would genuinely be glad to meet, pass on the rest, then reply to anyone waiting on you.
Fifteen focused minutes a day will do more for you than an hour of scrolling once a week. The app even hands out free Beans when you check in daily and act on your Suggested batch, so the habit that gets you dates also pays for a few extras along the way.
