Coffee Meets Bagel gives out free Beans in four situations. You get some when you join and some on your birthday. You also earn them when you refresh your page by uploading a new photo or updating a prompt, and when you check in daily and act on your Suggested batch. Beyond those, Beans are bought in the shop.
The daily check-in is the steady source
Of the four, only one comes around again and again. The join bonus happens once and the birthday once a year, but the daily check-in is available every day you use the app.
The condition is worth reading closely. You check in daily and act on your Suggested batch. Opening the app and closing it again is not the point. Going through the people you were suggested, liking some and passing on others, is.
That happens to be exactly the habit that gets men dates on this app. The batch refreshes at noon, so pick a moment after it lands, a lunch break or the ride home, and give it a few focused minutes. You collect Beans for doing what you should be doing anyway.
Refresh your photos and prompts for real
The second repeatable source is updating your page. Uploading a new photo or updating a prompt earns you Beans.
Treat this as a reason to improve, not an excuse for busywork. The women deciding whether to like you see whatever you upload, so every refresh should make your page better than it was yesterday.
A few changes are almost always worth making. If your lead photo is a group shot, a sunglasses selfie or a dim bar, replace it with a recent daylight photo where your face is easy to see. If all your photos show the same afternoon in the same shirt, swap one for a shot from a different part of your life. If one of your answers could have been written by any man, like "I love to travel," rewrite it. Give her a detail only you could give: the city you keep going back to, or the dish you cook when friends come over.
Each of those earns you Beans and improves your results at the same time.
The one-time Beans
The join bonus and the birthday Beans arrive without any effort from you. You get Beans when you first sign up, and again on your birthday.
There is nothing to optimize here. Make sure the birthday on your account is real, and the Beans will show up when the day comes.
The join bonus is a good reason to take your first week seriously, though. Start with photos and answers you are proud of, rather than a rushed setup you plan to fix later. The women who see you in that first week form their opinion from whatever is there.
Where free Beans go furthest
Beans pay for Flowers, for Boosts bought one at a time, and for reopening a chat that has expired. With a small free supply, spend it where it matters most.
A Flower sent to one woman you have a real reason to like is usually the best use. It puts you at the top of her Likes You page, and she can see who you are even as a free user. Pick someone whose photos or answers gave you a specific opening line, not simply the most attractive face in your batch.
Reopening an expired chat is the other good use, but only for a woman you genuinely wanted to meet. When you reopen it, skip the small talk and ask her out.
Spreading free Beans thinly across everyone gets you nothing. Concentrating them on two or three women you actually want to meet can get you a date.
Free Beans will not fix your first messages
It is tempting to think a few more Beans would change your results. Usually they will not.
If women are liking you back but your conversations fizzle, the problem is what happens after the match, and no currency fixes that. Open with something specific to her. Ask a real question. After a few good exchanges, suggest a drink while the chat is still warm. Most expired chats did not run out of time. They ran out of direction, a friendly back-and-forth that never became a plan.
Get that part right and you will need fewer Beans, because fewer conversations will ever need rescuing.
When the free Beans run out
Once your free supply is gone, Beans are bought in the shop. If you find yourself buying them often, the help pages suggest a Premium or Platinum subscription, which includes Boosts and Flowers each month.
Before you pay for anything, look honestly at how the free version is going. If women like you back and chats turn into dates, spending can get you more of that. If not, the photos and the words come first. They are free, and every improvement you make to them earns you Beans along the way.
