Open Tinder, go to Settings and scroll down to Block Contacts. Open the Blocked tab and tap Unblock next to each person you want to take off the list, or tap the menu icon in the top right and select Unblock All to clear everyone at once. Disconnecting your contact list does not unblock anyone, so every name stays blocked until you remove it yourself.
The steps, one at a time
Here is the full path from the app's home screen:
- Open Tinder and tap the profile icon.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down to Block Contacts.
- Open the Blocked tab.
- Tap Unblock next to each contact you want to unblock.
That is the whole process. It takes less time than reading this section.
Clearing the list with Unblock All
If you want a clean slate, tap the menu icon in the top right of the Blocked tab and select Unblock All. One tap removes every block at once.
Use it with care. The list might hold one ex you are over, but it might also hold a coworker you blocked for a good reason and a woman you never want to see again. Scroll through the names before you press it.
Unblocking the four people you meant takes a minute. Finding out you also unblocked the fifth happens when her face turns up on your screen, which is the exact moment the block was there to prevent.
Disconnecting your contacts does not unblock anyone
This is the part that trips men up. Tinder notes that disconnecting your contact list does not change your current list of blocked contacts. They stay blocked until you unblock them.
That cuts both ways. If you stopped sharing your contacts to protect your privacy, your blocks are still in place, so your ex is still off your screen. If you disconnected your contacts expecting a reset, nothing was reset. The Blocked tab is the only place a block comes off.
Your matches were never part of this either. Tinder says blocking contacts does not affect your existing matches or messages, so unblocking is not restoring anything. Everything that was in your list before is still there.
It is worth opening the Blocked tab now and then anyway. It shows everyone you have blocked, and a list you made a long time ago may not fit your life now.
Why men unblock someone
Most unblocking comes from time passing.
The most common case is an ex. You blocked her when the breakup was fresh and every glimpse of her stung. Months later, seeing her on the app would mean nothing, and you would rather not keep a list of people you are avoiding. That is a healthy reason.
Another is work. The colleague you blocked has left the company, or you have, and the reason for the block left with her.
The third is the list you made in a nervous week. Some men block a long run of contacts the first night they join, mostly out of embarrassment. Once you are comfortable being on the apps, those blocks are just clutter. There is no prize for a long block list, and the fewer names on it, the less the app feels like somewhere you are hiding.
Do not unblock her as a signal
There is one reason to unblock that works against you. That is unblocking an ex in the hope that she sees you and gets in touch.
It rarely plays out the way men picture it. She may never come across you at all. And if you cut her off for a good reason, quietly reversing it teaches you that your own decisions do not hold. The standard advice after a breakup is blunt: if you cut contact, stick with it. Backing down halfway leaves you worse off than either choice made cleanly.
Unblock her when she no longer matters to you. That is the only version that costs you nothing.
If she turns up when you swipe
Once the block is gone, she is an ordinary face on an ordinary app. If she comes up, swipe left and keep going. Do not read anything into it, and do not screenshot it to send to a friend.
Do not let one face from your past end your evening on the app, either. Move past her card, keep going, and answer the women who are actually writing to you. The ex is the least important person on your screen.
If seeing her still stings, that tells you something useful. The block was doing a job, and you can put her back on the list from the same Block Contacts screen with a few taps.
The short version
Settings, Block Contacts, the Blocked tab, then Unblock, or Unblock All from the menu. Disconnecting your contacts will not do it for you. Unblock the people who no longer matter, keep the ones who still do, and spend the time you save on the women you actually want to talk to.
