Go to Settings, tap Block List, open the Blocked tab and tap Unblock next to the contact. To clear everyone at once, tap the menu icon in the top right and select Unblock All. Disconnecting your contact list does not unblock anybody. Blocked contacts stay blocked until you unblock them yourself.
The steps
- Open Settings.
- Tap Block List.
- Open the Blocked tab.
- Find the contact and tap Unblock next to their name.
That removes one person from your Block List. Everyone else on it stays blocked.
Unblock All clears the whole list
If you want a clean slate, there is a faster route. From the Block List, tap the menu icon in the top right and select Unblock All.
Use it with care. It lifts every block at once: the ex, the coworkers, the neighbor, whoever you added. If you only meant to release one or two people, do them one at a time and leave the rest in place.
If you clear the list and then regret it, you can rebuild it. The Block List still offers the same two routes it always did: sync your contacts and pick people again, or type their numbers and emails back in by hand.
Disconnecting your contacts changes nothing
This is the part that trips men up. If you added people by syncing your contacts, it seems logical that disconnecting your contact list would undo those blocks.
It does not. Hinge says disconnecting your contact list does not unblock anyone. The blocks you made stay in force until you remove them in the Blocked tab. So if you disconnect contacts for privacy reasons, your Block List keeps doing its job, which is usually what you want anyway.
A Block List entry is not a report
The Block List is not the only way someone leaves your view on Hinge.
If you reported someone, that is a different matter. Hinge describes reporting as permanent: the two of you will not see each other again. Unblocking in the Blocked tab is for contacts you added to your Block List, not for people you reported.
So before you go looking for someone to unblock, be clear about how they left your view. If you added them to the Block List, the steps above bring them back. If you reported them, the decision was final.
Good reasons to unblock
Plenty of blocks outlive their purpose. A coworker left the company long ago. A friend's sister, blocked to avoid awkwardness, has since married. The neighbor moved away. There is no harm in clearing those out, and a shorter list is easier to keep track of.
The only question worth asking is whether the reason you blocked them still exists. If it does not, unblock them and forget about it.
Before you unblock an ex
This is where men should slow down. Unblocking an ex is rarely an admin task. Usually it is a feeling looking for a way back in.
GirlsChase's Hector Castillo tells a story about his first love that is worth hearing before you tap Unblock. She had a boyfriend and he wanted to be the boyfriend, so he cut her off. His mother told him that if he did it, he had to stick to it. A week or two later he was texting her again. When she became single soon after, he chased her, and he says it ruined everything. His lesson is that a woman loses respect for a man who announces he is done and then comes back on his own.
That is the real risk in unblocking an ex. The block was never really about her. Lifting it puts her back where you might see her, and seeing her is usually what leads to the message you regret.
Hector's own fix, when he wants to pull back from a woman, is to remove the reminders. He deletes the chat so it stops catching his eye, and he waits. Sometimes she gets in touch on her own a couple of weeks later. Sometimes she does not, and by then he has stopped thinking about her. Either way, the choice to reach out is hers. Unblocking her so you can keep an eye on her takes that choice back.
If you are genuinely over her and she no longer stirs anything, unblock away. If part of you is hoping she will turn up in your feed, leave the block in place for now.
Unblocking is not a message
Even if you do unblock her, nothing has to follow. Lifting a block is not a message, and it does not oblige you to send one.
Put your energy where it pays off: into the women you have not met yet. The best sign that you are ready to unblock an ex is that you forgot she was on the list at all.
