Open the People tab and tap the filter icon at the top right. Your age range sits with the basic filters, alongside distance, verification, languages and interests. Move the range to the ages you want and go back to your feed. You can change it at any time, so set it, watch what comes back for a week and adjust.
The steps
- Open Bumble and go to the People tab.
- Tap the filter icon at the top right of the screen.
- Find the age range among the basic filters.
- Move it to the lowest and highest ages you want, then go back to your feed.
Bumble's help pages describe these filters as the way you set your preferences. The same screen holds the other basic filters, so you can set several things in one visit.
What sits next to it
The age range is one of several basic filters: distance, verification, languages and interests. Each one narrows who you see.
Treat them as a set. A narrow age range plus a short distance plus a verification requirement can leave you with a few dozen profiles in a smaller town. That is fine in a big city and a problem elsewhere. Change one filter at a time so you know which one changed your feed.
Bumble Premium adds advanced filters. You do not need them to set an age range. The age range is one of the basic filters.
"Show other people if I run out"
This option lets Bumble show you people outside your filters once you have seen everyone inside them.
It is useful in a smaller place, where you can run through the local profiles quickly. It is also a trap, because the people it shows next are outside the age range you picked. If you keep seeing women much older or younger than you intended, check that this option is on.
Decide which you prefer. If you would rather see nobody than see the wrong ages, turn it off. If you would rather keep seeing people, leave it on and swipe past the ones you do not want.
How wide should it be
Narrow filters mean fewer profiles. Bumble says so plainly, and its advice is to relax them if things go quiet.
Set the bottom at the youngest age you would genuinely be pleased to spend an evening with. Set the top a few years above your own age. a dating coach points out that on swipe apps, women set an age range too, and a woman whose maximum sits below your age never sees your profile. The top end is the part men forget.
So raise the top before you lower the bottom. A higher ceiling removes nobody from your feed and adds the women whose ranges are most likely to include you.
Width depends on where you live
In a large city, a wide range gives you a big pile of profiles to sort through, and sorting is what wears men out. A tighter range there protects your time.
In a smaller place, a narrow range runs out of people in an evening. Widen it, or use the option that shows people outside your filters.
The test is whether you are running out of people or out of time. Set the range against whichever one is actually happening.
What the range cannot do
The age range decides who can appear in your feed. It does not change what they think when they see you.
If women in your range swipe past you, widening it gets you passed over by more women. The fix is in your photos and your prompts. A clear photo of your face in daylight, a few specific lines and an opening message that asks her something she can answer in a sentence do more than any filter.
a dating coach's other warning applies here. Do not like everyone. An app reads how selective you are, and a man who likes every face gets shown fewer of the women he wants. Use the filter to define your pool, then be choosy inside it.
Check it after a week
Set the range, then leave it alone for a week and look at what came back. If you have plenty of profiles and no conversations, the range was not the problem. If you see very few profiles, widen the top first and the distance second.
Keep notes on which women answer. If most replies come from the top of your range, that tells you where the women who like you are, and you can shift the whole range toward it.
